I went. I had to sneak but I did it, got caught and also got the beating of my life. But I had a great time, my older brother, he was df'd at the time asked my mother if I could come over because his wife was pregnant and needed some help, he told them he had to work.

So he and his wife helped me get my dress and shoes, my sister in law did my hair and my date non-jw of course picked me up at big bro's house in his dad's Jag He brought me back to my brothers house and mom and dad found out the next morning. A Jdub boy, saw us at Red Lobster eating, promptly went home and told his elder dad, he called my elder dad and I could barely get home before he got the phone call.

    It was worth it!

    mrsjones5:

I still have my prom pic.

This brings up a related question similar to what I asked Snakes:

Did you enjoy your Senior Prom (if you went)?

Yep I did, tho' my date was really nervous. Come to find out later later that he had the hots for me but didn't have the nerve to say anything and I had known this guy almost all my life. Almost married him too.

I went with a Baptist boy. We did the parents pics thing with my corsage, had dinner with a large group of friends(worldly), got our "official" pictures done, danced until 2am and went home.

    It was sweet.

    Place SO CAL

I didn't have one of my own. As a higher education wasn't encouraged so I didn't finish HS.

My GF was 4-1/2 years younger than me. I was her date for her prom. Knew all her freinds had a great time.

It was held at an Elk's Club = Bar . I was 21

A group of us also hung out by the pool and partook of the local herb.

I wish I would've tried to get more out of school I was to indocternated though.

I didn't get to go to my prom. There was a group of teenagers from several different kingdumb hells that got together and went a couple of years before mine. They **must** have done something to tick off the elders (remember the movie 'Footloose'? I thought they stole the plot from our kingdumb hell) because we started having local needs talks on the subject of proms whenever that time of year drew near. That in itself was weird because there were no other kids my age in our hall so everyone knew the talk was for my benefit alone.

    But I'm not bitter. (cough**liar**cough)

I got to go. I wasn't attending the Kingdom Hall, and had lost my publisher status due to inactivity. My siblings convinced my parents that I could go. So, I bought a great dress, got a date (a friend), and went. Problem was that I was so confused (dancing to disco music, drinking, etc.), that I told my date I was "sick" and wanted to go home. I got home at 10:00. Poor date didn't know what to do. He contacted me about a year ago. He's married, in California, and doing well. I explained the reasons behind my strange behaviour. It blew his mind. You see, he's Jewish. Skeeter

    1976

Went on a city wide organized trip to Bethel. Met boy from other side of city. (Way other side, of big city. And me, from the other side of the tracks) First boyfriend, and first kiss. We try to keep together, but being JW's and only being 15 and 16 years old, it was of no use.

1 year later, and at a Circuit Assembly, I see him. We talk, and he asks me to his prom. We are both Seniors. I am 16, and he is 17. My father says YES!!!! With provisions. Both of our fathers were elders.

We would be followed home from the prom. My choice of whom. My DAD, or a woman I like, in the congregation. I pick the woman.

Not allowed to leave prom, until the designated time chosen.

I had to buy the dress, he didn't have the money. (it was all I could afford, but wasn't bad. The sales lady helped. Mom didn't want to go. No imput what-so-ever)

We were allowed to drive to a restaurant across town, to eat with his parents, at a Country Club. We were timed. No time to pull over and have sex. His mother was a rich JW snob. Made a couple of snide comments, about my side of town. His mom took pictures.

They followed us to the prom location.

We were almost the last people to leave. Everyone else cut out. But we had to stay. When we went out to the parking lot, The sister, had parked 2 feet away from his car. The parking lot was EMPTY!!!

At every stop, she would pull up next to us, wrinkle her nose, and wave. We would wave back. Over and Over. No talking for us. Just waving at the nut job sister, that I thought was half way cool.

We finally got to my house, and she in front of him, in he driveway. She stayed for 5 minutes, and then announced, that she was going, and so was he. BYE!!!

    THE PROM

I can't dance. I just swayed, all night.

He bought me an orchid,,a bid petal fell off, and I slipped on it, and almost landed on my butt.

Don't remember much else. Just loud music. I didn't know anybody else there. Just him. I found out, that my bra showed big time. From the boys brother. My mother never said a thing. I was never given any copies of any pictures. I really liked him. The only problem was, he was going to College. OMG!! College??? Why??? Oh, they had money. We didn't. Nobody ever mentioned college where I came from. I was a straight A student, in a bad school.

We tried to "say we were a couple", but it was impossible, at such young ages. We both had graduated high school at young ages, and not even old enough to date.

    SWEET 16 BLISS to NIGHTMARE

I went to a JW party, 2 weeks after graduation, and my girl-friend and I had already been stalked, and hunted by two "JW" "Bad guys" Christian brothers. (What a Laugh) They already had decided, who got who. They introduced themselves. My life was changed from that day.

    Enter horrible life, to JWD

My mom said I could go- BUT- I had to ask a particular brother at our hall. Not so bad--I kinda liked him and he was cute! He was older than me and went to a different high school. I asked--he said he would think about it. A few days later he said he didn't want to go

So, I had a dress and no date. I wore the dress for graduation!

Here we have what is called a matric farewell. It was a source of major debate within all congregations. Some kids went, some didn't. Some parents organised celebratory "gettogethers" for their kids when there were a whole lot finishing High School in the same year. If I recall correctly, it became a bit of a conscience issue. I didn't get to go... my parents said they had no money for my dress etc and that became the reason. Funny - they didn't have money for my tertiary education either!
