I'll tell you by using a vivid analogy.
Have you had dinner with your whole family and the oldest person there farts accidentally?
EVERYBODY smells it--but--NOBODY says a word.
Later....out of earshot.....little groups whisper to each other about it.
That's is 99% of what the reaction was. The Governing Body farted, the whole world smelled it and an embarassing silence...whispering....followed.

I have a 20 page letter written to the Watchtower in 1976. It's 20 pages long so obviously it wouldn't make sense for me to post the images.
