There are not rational intelligent people running the US or the world. Voting is like heroin for the masses. People think they have some control or say but in reality do not. It keeps them from rioting and civil unrest.
The people who have money and power have an aggenda for this world. And since they have the gold they make the rules.

I remember when I was Idealistic like you in my 20's maybe even through my 30's by the time you hit 40 either you wake up and smell the coffee or you get in the line that says there is no fool like an old fool.
Why do you care if some one is educated before sending them to go and kill in the military? Education doesnt equal smart.
George Bush has a 4 year degree and he acts as sharp as a box of rocks.
Smart people arent going to go into the army or marines to be cannon fodder. Wise people are not going to be ground fighters.
What if at home, the nation concentrated on building schools, parks, museums and librarys?
If you have any conviction to your statement I would suggest making your home Switzerland or a place similar to that. You have dreams of making a silk purse out of a sows ear. Or you sat in the kingdumb hall for more than a week.

Bush's Boondogle is costing 200 million a day and looks like it will go over a trillion dollars. Bush has bankrupted the US. But that is part of the plan to have the new world order.
The new world order the wac tower talked about and were apart of the people who put the masses to sleep so the people with the money could do their nasty works.
You say what if community college was free for all.
What are you getting at that you want educated soldiers to go and kill? Or that educated people wont go to war.
We already know that smart people wont go to war thats why when they have a draft they draft 18 year olds. Even Bush and Caney as stupid as they act were smart enough not to go to war.
I used to be a soldier and smart people dont like to kill others . they end up orering others to do the killing for them. Military training will cause some to need a lot of therapy (me) and its not for everyone
.If you can shut off all the truly compassionate and empathatic emotions and do what your told whatever that might be (murder demolition theft arson guarding or a tech education) you will do fine . But if you are a healthy person fragmenting your own mind for a paycheck sucks .
Think post tramatic strees disorder this leads to schitzoid behavior. After being trained to kill another person because your given an order to do so it takes a bit of time to put that other persona to bed.
I still love playing uber violent video games and know that inside I'm still capable of anything (ya anything) but I dont need meds and counciling is a thing of the past.
I dont boil with rage or have too many homocidal thoughts lol! After a lot of years and hard work I'm mostly at peace other than this crazy obsession I have with finding a better answer than "On the sixth day God created man"

That's a blanket statement and not true.
I've been called a "pacifist" on this board because I do not believe in war. I consider myself "peaceful". I see that sometimes a country needs to defend its people and its freedoms, but I think this should be a last resort.
I don't think there should be any wars either changeling, but accept that in the world we live in they sometimes seem like an evil necessity.
The amount of money spent on warfare is huge like you say and if it was used to benefit people instead of trying to kill them, it would be much better world to live in.

also think the whole mentality of our militatry is based on testosterone and not on brains. What if we changed that? What if instead of signing bonuses and optional payed educations after time served, the military offered an education up front? What if, in order to enter the militatry you had to pass a test (like SAT's or ACT's) and had to have no criminal record? What if upon admitance, the person had to learn, not only what they teach in boot camp, but obtain a college degree as well?
Do you mean like the way they've done it at West Point for the last couple hundred years or the Naval Academy? You go to school for 4 years, then serve for 5 years. I think for West Point you need about a 3.8-3.9 GPA to even have your application considered.... Is that the lack of brains you are referring to?
Until Ronald Regan was elected govenor, the first two years of college in public schools of California were FREE! He and his minions objected to college students protesting and expressing thoughts that were contrary to his, hence justification to cut off funding. If we really want to compete in the world economy we should invest in education but then an educated electorate couldn't be as easily blinded by wool! carmel
