Here is my baby girl, with her baby girl!

ok we decided to have two showers,
one at a resturaunt............cool, awesome pizza place and the guys can have beer!!!
and one at my house, for different family members/friends with kids/etc
we got registered, and the list of invites, fussed and thought things out,
and decided to have them both in the first week of december.........(give me plenty of time to paint the house, get new flooring, by new furniture.......kidding KIDDING!)))

I don't think there's a rule for an appropriate time to have the baby shower.
In some places it's the norm to have it before the baby arrives - here it can be as little as two weeks ahead of the due date - or even after the baby arrives.
Maybe it will be a nice diversion to have it after the holidays around the 2nd week of January. There won't be as much of a problem booking the restaurant either and competing with Christmas parties and Christmas decorations. The people you invite might be more inclined to show up too, because they don't have other "holiday-related" functions to deal with, and it will be a nice outing after all the excitement of Christmas.
