    Best live performer:

    SADE

Understated sensuality, as opposed to over-hyped sex--like some of her late 80s cohorts. The perfect "date" concert. If I told how many times I saw her/them in concert this year, some of my JW "friends" would know who I am.

Some performers shine on stage, even though they are not as impressive in the studio. Live favorites:

Billy Joel - great keyboardist and wonderful with an audience.
Tracy Chapman - live, outdoor summer concert, she really connected
Itzhak Pearlman - loves to shmooze with the audience, funny guy
Joe Satriani - not much of a talker, but plays great guitar

and my most pleasant surprize: Barry Manilow. I know, I know...I had to be dragged to the concert by a rabid fan; but once there, he really put on a show and travels with an excellent orchestra. He knows he's a chilche and plays it up.

By the way, I'm heading for Vegas next week. Any suggestions?

It's surprising who is often a great liveband... Alas, I haven't seen that many bands live since I live far away from the usual tour routes...

    Some favs:

    David Bowie
    Waterboys/Mike Scott
    Cranberries
    Bob Dylan
    Bryan Adams (huge surprise!)
    Lou Reed

...and I am extremely sad I never could see Queen live.

Gotta agree with Hmmmm on Sade -- she really is a smooth operator on stage and her musicians are a crack jazz band. Their instrumental piece had the whole auditorium on their feet and dancing.

    Great shows I have seen....

    As a teenager...

Kiss (close enough to have Gene Simmons spit blood on me.)
Fleetwood Mac (When Stevie Nicks was a thin little fox.)
Doobie Brothers (oh hell, I am dating myself.)
Van Halen (The David Lee Roth)

Best shows I've seen in the last few years...

    Phil Collins
Everything But the Girl (accoustical set)
Gino Vannelli (his small club tour)

On my want to see list:

    U2
    Basia
    Joe Sample
    Alanis Morrisette

    WORST SHOWS I'VE EVER SEEN:

Eagles -- complete snoozeville. They played their songs exactly like the records with no improvisation. I couldn't wait for it to be over.

Elton John -- the same reason, zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
