    HS,

I have met Don Rendell (jazz saxophonist, yes?) on several occasions. His pal, Ron Darnell (trumpet), was my Dad's asst PO.

    E'Man,

Yes, that is he. A truly world class musician and a lovely man. Ron Darnell was pretty handy too, a little too much staccato for my tastes.

Did you ever catch Don playing with Ian Carr (trumpet ) in their quintet? They parted company in the early 70's as Ian moved into a more electronic band with 'Nucleus' and Don remained acoustic. The hair still vibrates on the back of my neck thinking about a Saturday night in Barnes when they lifted the roof with the steam from their playing. Trevor Tomkins on drums, Michael Garrick piano, Dave Green string-bass. Them were good old tymes, them were.

    Where did you meet?

Thanks for the memories Eman - HS

Well, Stabbing Westward is VERY good live. They sound as good as popping in thier CD. Rage Against the Machine is also very good live along with Nine Inch Nails.

I heard the Cure was awesome live, but I havn't had the pleasure of seeing them perform yet.

Sugar Ray sucks live. Very awful and the dude can't sing for beans.

P.S. - bands I wish I could have seen or want to see:

    Fleetwood Mac
    Jimi Hendrix
    Janis Joplin
    The Doors
    The Beatles
The BeeGees (make fun of me if you want)
    Tina Turner
    Madonna (the 80's Madonna)
Lords of Acid (if they do concerts?)
Creed (Maybe I will still get my chance)

    Seen:
    Rush
    Grateful Dead
    Scorpions(I was young)
    Van Halen
    Crosby, Stills, Nash
    Freddie Jones Band
and many I just dont recall

The greatest performer I have ever seen on stage was a man named Michael Hedges. If you have never seen him perform it is impossible to understand this man's presence. Not many know of him, but those who have seen him play live have their life forever changed.

You take me to SADE and I will take you to Brian Setzer. We could make a weekend out of it. Ill just tell my wife uh that I uh -hell Ill just leave. -OM

Openminded, you've got a deal. I know a guy who has seen Brian Setzer a gazillion times, and says it is an amazing show live. Just one thing, however: I'm a guy, so keep your hand off my knee!

I'd have to say the "Commodores" was the most impressive group I've seen. They did a terrific job, were very personable, totally enjoyable! They capped off an already terrific show, with a 15-20 minute version of "Night Shift" with all KINDS of improvisation.

Everyone in the audience was on their feet, just ABSORBING the music, swaying from side to side, completely mesmerized by the finale. I STILL get goosebumps whenever I hear "Nightshift" on the radio.

    Openminded,
I gotta ask ya....Does the best harmonica player EVER, Mickey Raphael, still travel with Willie Nelson? That guy is SO super-talented, and "made" Willie's "80's" hits just shine in his short solos.

    Peace,
I noticed Phish on your list..around "85-86" my best friend had several housecleaning jobs, and after the Sunday session of the District Convention at the War Memorial in Syracuse, she said she had to make a stop on the way home to feed a "Mrs. Fish's" cat and wash a few dishes that her son would have left. Mrs. Fish was on vacation, and her son was in and out either rehearsing with his band or performing in small clubs around the area.

The house looked like a small cottage from the front, kinda nestled behind some trees, but it was huge when we got inside. She took me on the grand tour: it was quite a unique home-different.

Little did I know that Mrs. Fish's son was the lead singer in Phish...I think his name was Jon or Jonathan...they weren't popular at that time, just getting started.

My girlfriend was invited to their home on Cape Cod the next summer, to house-sit and at the end of two weeks, the family came back and together they all attended a Phish concert somewhere in Vermont.

One year in Rochester, I think in "85, a bunch of us attending the District Assembly, were in town the same week as the "Dead" were booked nearby. Rumor had it that they were IN the same hotel---all I can say is, when the concert let out, and the noise settled down in the hallways, if ya stuck your head out the door and inhaled......it wasn't Pine Sol ya smelled!!! <grin>

Late "70's, another convention in Lynchburg, VA...Dolly Parton was appearing the very night we were leaving, I wanted to crawl under a seat and hide, to stay and see her!! She's another one, beneath all the trappings is one talented gal...

The stars I would love to see....Richard Marx.....ever since I first heard "Angelia" in "88, I've been hooked!! Next would definetly be James Taylor, who sounds as good as ever! Saw him on PBS or A&E recently...excellent! (sigh)

    Hugs,

    Sunspot
