Quit your job and go sell ice cream

I guess at least the guy still had a job selling ice cream. I've known WAY too many JWs who mooched off the govt - food stamps, welfare, (undeserved) disability and/or unemployment or even mooching off of relatives so they could pioneer, and they were practically worshipped by the congregation. Made me want to peuk. I made the choice to finish college and raise my son without any handouts and they shunned me.

I think govt help should be taken when needed, but if a person is able to work, they should. Jesus would never have been a mooch. I wonder when the Watchtower article will come out about how to take advantage of govt benefits so a person can pioneer.

that poor soul. Any who still think it's cool what he's doing, is still totally brainwashed and especially blind to reality. If the Borg was smart, they'd send all to college to get a BA, work jobs that pay enough for a person to get by working only a max. of 30 hrs. per week. giving them plenty of time for the FS and extra $$$$ to contribute. I'm kinda glad they aren't encouraging college education that much yet. Obviously, the article apparently is still discouraging it.

Quit your glamorous job and you will make more money while you pioneer (full-time service

That wasn't my experience. I pioneered straight from leaving school for 7 years until I was 23, and never had any money. I didn't have a glamorous job though, I worked part-time in shops or as a cleaner. I don't have a glamorous job now, but it's better than anything I did as a pioneer.

Even when I was a reasonably committed JW, I used to wonder about some of these stories, and we never heard anything about people who'd tried to pioneer and hadn't been able to manage, though I knew of a few.

The WTS doesn't want people to go to college because it is much easier to control ignorant (and poor) people.

I remember going door to door and when we worked the "rich" neighborhoods, not 1 person would listen. But when we worked the more "ghetto" areas, people were more willing to talk at least. Look at the majority that make up the JWs - most are barely getting by.

After reading the Wierd Al & Kingdom Melody threads....

I wrote the first paragraph of a jingle as an ode to this Watchtower article. You are welcome to continue it, change it, edit it.

(To the tune of "Hey, hey we're the Monkeys")

    Kingdom Melody #666

Hey, hey, we ape the Moonies.

We like to quit our jobs.

    Selling sweets on the corner

    For Bethel's par-a-dise..

Hey, hey, we ape the Moonies

    We don't go to sch-o-oul.

    Give up our worldly ways

    For Bethel's para-dise...

Hey, hey, we ape the Moonies

And, these Sears suits are h-o-ot

But we look and smile nice

    For Bethel's par-a-dise....

Skeeter ain't got a drop of singin' talent. Not even with a few beers or whiskey's, would I ever do a You Tube. Talk about an "ass"-ault on y'all's ears. The hounds would be a howling.

Where the hell does this person live that he is making more money selling ice cream than as a computer tech? Give me a break!!!! How anyone can sit thru that obviously made up junk without laughing is beyond me.

More likely this is another attempt to keep the "brothers" from recieving further education and taking time from dah-troof. Now all they need is a 4th grade education instead of High School. Cuz I am pretty sure a 10 year old can make home made ice cream and peddle it on the street. Also, we alread know they don't want people on computers (i.e. the internet) either at home or at work, so I found it interesting that this guy was a computer technician......... Yeah.... o.k.... There were 4 or 5 elders in my congregation that were millionaires or at least very close to being. I used to laugh when they would get up there and tell us that it's not about the money. They could go out in service all day long and never worry about paying the bills. I guess Jehovah was providing for them? Whatever.
