Eryn, based on the amount of money spent on this system.....its suppose to ask me that question !
Jones5....I agree! Why do we need to be a brain surgeon to get this stuff to work?
1. If there is a "Tape Monitor" button press it and see what happens. If nothing does press it again.
2. Check to see if the speakers are set wrong. Sometimes stereos are set up for multiple speakers (A, B, C) and if you have it set to where none are - no sound.
just a few guesses to get ya jammin

dance seductively in front of it...........well when my wife does that to me...I get turned on......
You guys are too funny....I don't know if you read, I got it to work after much angst! Thanks.
r.
I get overwhelmed trying to figure out how to hook up the dvd player, vcr and things to my tv. All those cables and converters and cords, etc. I end up having to ask a man to help me everytime. Not saying that women aren't just as good at these things as men, but I am not good at it. I empathize.

Was it the drink or the dancing? I have a bet with ninja.
You might wish to look at a unified programmable remote such as Logictech's Harmony series.
Essentially, it's a remote with one button common functions such as "Watch TV", "Listen to Music", "Watch Movie" and others that replace all those individual component remotes. For instance, when you hit the "Music" button, it turns on the CD player and starts playback, turns on the receiver and changes to the CD input. Instant music every time, no muss no fuss. Select "Watch Movie" and it will turn on the DVD player, open the tray, turn on the receiver, switch to the DVD input, change to DTS audio or your favorite 5.1 soundfield, turn on your HD TV, switch to the DVD input, change to your preferred picture format, and so on. You can program it to do anything you can do with your actual remote as well with "soft keys" that list all the functions of the remotes in question.
It takes a bit of setup like any "universal" remote. You have to connect it to your PC via USB and using the supplied software, enter the make and model numbers of your system components, which components are required to do what action with specific actions of each and in what order, etc. The software seaches out the appropriate IR codes for these from the net, downloads them and configures the remote the way you want. They're not cheap but they are pretty convenient. And I save on batteries. :)
Check it out.
