Drug Addiction- Meth addiction, Did You Know Someone Addicted? Dangerous!

I felt it was good to start a thread on this as methamphetamine addiction has become one of the most abused drugs in our society. Unfortunately, from what I've heard is it is relatively cheap to make , not as expensive as other drugs, and highly addictive once a person is " hooked" they have an extremely hard time getting off it. Crank or speed as it is called makes people highly aggressive, mean spirited, and can make them violent. My 2nd marriage broke up because of it. The woman I was married to was highly addicted and kept it hidden from me for years before I found out, her finally admitting what made her so aggressive! She did not want drug counseling though, so the marriage would not work. I've never done one drug, but I have seen the damage it does to lives , the lost relationships and co-dependent relationships it creates, with innocent victims ( the abusers relatives ) unable to decipher how to deal with an abusive drug addict.

So, do you know someone who is addicted to drugs ? Meth tears your body up, teeth eventually fall out, will make you age 20 to 30 years ahead of your time, and kills your body from the inside, out. Even addiction to " lesser" drugs can be a problem in people's lives , resulting in inattentiveness, lack of motivation to accomplish anything successful . So to protect our lives and those we love, let's show concern for those who have these addictions. Help them see the need to get off the drugs ansd start really living again ! So what experiences do you have with overcoming drug abuse ? How have you seen Meth or other drugs destroy people's lives. It might be good to share so we may help others see the dangers involved so they can avoid the pitfalls and help others too ! look forward to your responses ! Peace out to all , Mr. Flipper

Don't know anyone addicted to meth, but my youngest brother is a heroin addict. He's been on the methodone program for years. He's what I call a tortured soul. We grew up in an abusive household, as some may have heard my story, but my youngest brother was born when I was 16, and I remember thinking, I wish I could take you with me and you could avoid the life I know you will have. Couldn't happen of course, the rest of us gradually moved away and he was their only subject. Top that off with, he was also sexually abused by a family friend. Then at the ripe old age of ten or eleven, the idiot my sister was then married to, gave him and all of his (even younger) kinds drugs. Well thankfully he went to prison and they were divorced, but the damage was done. Cory found out drugs were a place to escape all that pain.

He's 35 now, looks like a homeless person (he isn't, not quite). His teeth are a mess, and his legs and arms are covered with sores from the years of shooting up. He's has Hepatitis (can't remember the alphabet that goes along with that), and constantly gets staff infections that are resistant to antibiotics and spends time in the hospital every few months.

With all of that, Meth just doesn't take as long to get you to the place he is. Its vile and evil.

My heart goes out to those that fight these addictions. May they all find peace outside a substance.

I have known and do know many meth addicts.

I know a couple of recovering meth addicts.

It is the most horrible drug you can imagine. Horrible. Right up there with crack or heroin. Very hard habit to break and it destorys the addict and their family. If they have children, God help them.

Of all the drugs out there, this is one of the worst. I know a few people that are totally spun out on crank. It definitely is not a pretty sight. For those trying to recover, I believe that the odds are lower than for other drugs. For those of you that want to use recreational drugs, please avoid this one!

    Amen!

I think that it is easy for people who are not addicted to be harsh about those who are.

Just think to yourself - what would make life so hard that a person would turn to these substances which make them very ill ?

If you know an addict, don't judge, but don't accept it either. Take action, but don't attack the person. Thats my advice.

If they are truly addicted to meth they are goners. period. Too late, bye bye. Like smokers with terminal lung cancer. Why quit smoking? The (brain)damage is done. It's their life.

Yeah, well how about you come tell my husband that? He was 7 year SERIOUS meth addict-almost died a homeless person, went to residential rehab 3 times, countless relapses...-now over 10 years sober. Just go into any 12 step meeting and you will find other like him. Yes, he beat the odds. Yes, for every person like him, hundreds die addicts. But recovery is possible. If they are still alive, recovery is POSSIBLE.

My AA home group is only a few blocks from a residential treatment center. We get a lot of visitors when they are allowed to go to outside meetings (its how I discovered the group). The ones on crack and meth really have a struggle on their hands, although I've known a few that seemed to be getting some where. I'd never give up hop on some one, but yes, it is a real battle.
