Back in May I went to a nightclub and ended up seeing one my best jw friends, a friend who refused to say goodbye when I was in the process of disassociating because he was so upset with me. We'd known each other since we were kids. Our moms were close. And before I left we were good buddies. His wedding was the last jw event I attended.
So that night at the club, our eyes met. He turned the other way. By the end of the night he'd worked his way closer to me on the dance floor but still he wouldn't talk to me. As he was leaving that night he smiled at me. I smiled back.
Well, last night I was at the same club and again he turns up. We ended up once more dancing close on the dance floor. This time he said hello. And then said, "This is now two times we've met up here. It can't be coincidence." I grabbed him and hugged him. He hugged me back. We chatted about what's new in our lives, work, family, etc. Then I had to leave and hugged him again. He said it was great to see me. I'm sure we'll meet again.
Life's funny.

Wow, I dont remember JW's being allowed to go to night clubs back in the 80's and 90's, is this now considered "OK"? I knew quite a few JW's who drinked, some even heavily, but I never thought they would go to nightclubs amidst all those "worldly" people.

My experience, NW JWs are little puritans, East Coast (NY,NJ) JWs are party animals. But that may be a reflection of my age and association. I was a young teenager as a NW JW, and associated briefly with JWs in my late teens in NY/NJ. But I know they went to clubs and dancing, and they were more social altogether.

So where was his wife while all this hugging was going on??
This sounds like someone who is soon to be an ex-JW minus a wife.

Funny you should mention that. His wife is a flight attendant and is often out of town. My friend was very quick to mention to me that they're still together and doing well, even though she's not been with him the two times we met. LOL
I'd like to see him be an ex-jw, but with wife. They'd both be better off out.

I doubt it's OK. In fact, I had to laugh because the group of them were pretty bombed, and dancing to Prince's "Erotic City" I might add (that song was on the ban list for jw parties here...you'd get your ass hauled into an elder's meeting if you got caught playing it let alone dancing to it). I can only surmise that more and more of the younger generation are living on the fringes of dubdom. Let's hope some of them spill over the side.
