We ended up once more dancing close on the dance floor. This time he said hello.

close dancing without saying hello - like sex without love

This is very curious. Who was he dancing with? She obviously wasn't his wife. Was it the same person both times you saw him?

Let's see if I can get this straight. You are bad but he can go out when his wife is out of town, drink, be with other women, worldly people, dance to heathen songs, go to a worldly club etc. and still be in "good standing?"

    Something is amiss.

He probably didn't shun you because of a guilty conscience. Going to clubs around this neck of the woods definitely earmarks you as "bad association" and you can expect a back-room discussion and a local needs talk if you're ever ratted out.

I personally dislike clubs so it was never a problem for me, but the other "young ones" received earfuls of "counseling" on the matter.

    tall penguin...

sounds like he is on the way out...maybe in 6 months...by next May... he will make it all the way out...hopefully with his wife

(How could anyone resist you once?)

He was dancing with a mixed group of people. It all did seem a bit odd. But who's to know really? Maybe he will indeed be out soon. I'd like that. I really missed our friendship.

Yep, he sounds like a goner, for sure.

Eh, not even my worldly friends would go out clubbing on multiple occassions without their wives.

Tall Pengiun, if it's happened once...we know it's happened twice. Since this has happened twice, I "bet" it's this guy's modus operandi to go out to clubs when his wife is out of town. Perhaps she's a frigid JW wife? Or, she's too involved with the pilots & the mile high club to "render her marital due."

Anyway, this guy is trying to find happiness in unapproved places.

Hummm doesn't take a Phd. to figure out what is going on!

I know he was a bit of a player before he got hitched. Perhaps not much has changed. I was actually quite surprised to see him that drunk. I don't recall him being a big drinker before. So, who knows what's been happening with him over the past two years. Hey, maybe my leaving was a wake-up call. One can only hope.

Oh dear, drinking too? Drinking and prescription drugs are the "ok" drugs if you are a JW. But, the effect is the same as the "bad" stuff.

Escape reality? "Cure" depression? or just a plain, old alcoholic?

Drinking in excess is scary. We had a "brother" in our congregation....drank so much...he got behind the wheel and ended up killing his early brother & paralyzing himself. He was one of those "on the edge" brothers. Sounds similar?

I've read your profile... interesting. Why is it that many of us are so similar? We're all in shock it seems. Maybe this friend of your is starting his shock therapy. I sometimes sit at night almost screaming in my head as to the whys and whatnots it'll take for my family to see reality. I mean what the hell is wrong with them? Anyway, I'm glad you've made your great escape... sounds like dear old dad might need a copy of COC, you may help him escape alnog with your mom,..... good luck
