    As above!

Fading is just too good an idead to give out to the desperate souls trapped in dubbie land!

I agree you won't find "fading" in the dub dictionary, but maybe that's because we coined the word here. There have been articles and talks on "drifting away," however, which is dub-speak for the fade.

Some years back, a CO gave a talk that was often quoted throughout our circuit for many years after. In it, he described the way some people drift away from the congregation. He described boats tied to a dock, some with single JWs aboard, some with whole families in the boat. Tired of being tethered to the dock, where they were safe from the dangers of deep water, someone would occasionally loosen the rope and the boat would start to bob on the water and slowly drift from the dock.

At first, he said, the drift was imperceptible. But soon other boaters noticed that their companion had drifted several yards away. They might call out to him, even throw him a lifeline (which sounded good but, in my experience is mostly fiction). Eventually the boat was far out in the ocean, beyond earshot. Then it became a dot on the horizon, never to be seen again.

It all sounded very serious, and ominous. None of us thought it had anything to do with ourselves, of course, but was a warning to "others."

So I think "fading" is in their dictionary, just under an synonym.

I've wondered about that too. Especially since they love to appear like they are "in the know" (remember the "hooking up" WT article?).

And the drifting scenario they present does not really fit people like myself who were active publishers for over 40 years and then one month, voila! no time, and six months later, the inactive sign goes up. And all the while I attented less and less meetings until after 7 months, puff!, I was gone.

So why don't they use the "f" word? I really don't know. But it makes me feel as though they have something up their sleeve. Like some big "apostate denunciation announcement" or something. Call me paranoid, but I just don't trust them.

They use the word "drift" rather than "fade."

    *** w06 5/15 p. 30 par. 16 The Joys of Walking in Integrity ***

Unaware of his blessings, however, he drifted away from the Christian congregation when he was a teenager.

    *** w05 4/15 p. 16 par. 5 Let God’s Word Light Your Roadway ***

This example should encourage a renewed search for God by any who have drifted away from the Christian congregation. He will bless and protect those who resume active association with his people.

    *** w05 9/15 p. 27 Resist Wrong Thinking! ***

In time, such a person could drift away, even draw away, from the living God.—Hebrews 2:1; 3:12.

    *** w05 11/1 p. 24 par. 13 Will You Walk With God? ***

By providing spiritual food at the proper time, the faithful slave class has helped millions to find “the roadways of long ago” and to walk with God. (Matthew 24:45-47) Are you among those millions? If so, what can you do to avoid drifting away, turning to follow your own course?

    *** w04 4/1 p. 11 Resist the Spirit of a Changing World ***

    “Never Drift Away”

8 To fellow Christians, the apostle Paul wrote: “It is necessary for us to pay more than the usual attention to the things heard by us, that we may never drift away.” (Hebrews 2:1) A ship adrift does not reach its destination. If a captain is inattentive to wind and current, his ship might easily drift past a safe harbor and run aground on a rocky shore. Similarly, if we are inattentive to the precious truths of God’s Word, we might easily drift away from Jehovah and suffer spiritual shipwreck. To suffer such loss, we would not necessarily have to reject the truth outright. In fact, not many reject Jehovah suddenly and deliberately. More often, they gradually get involved in something that distracts them from paying attention to God’s Word. Almost imperceptibly, they drift into sin. Like a captain who is asleep, such individuals do not wake up until it is too late.

I think the term "fade" and "drift-away" are close, but there is a nuace of difference: fade is deliberate-right?, whereas drift away is sort of passive and accidental and then "oops". So, would it be good strategy to get the term "fade" out to the JW in any anti-preaching activity?

I was just commenting on how the WTS has its own vocabulary for leaving gradually. They don't want to think anyone is "choosing" to leave. But it is an excellent way to get your bearings when you have want to leave. Some find it works all the way, others it gives time to adjust and find friends, adjust employment, mentally prepare for shunning, etc., when they may choose to DA.

They are constantly warning against spiritual ship wreak by drifting away from meetings, not being regular in field service, letting our personal study slide, and all the other BS that keep us from using our minds for anything else except to bring more mindless robots into the Borganization. What they don't tell you is, if you drift and experience ship wreak, the island you are going to land on is a land where your able to think for yourself, get educated, make a good living, stop feeling sorry for all those poor worldly people that are about to die at the big A. And we will no longer need there sorry a$$e$ to have real happiness.
