Do Elders pay attention to who's missing the meetings and how often?

This is exactly why the Society splits congos when they get beyond 150 pubs - so they can keep track of who's absent!

Really depends on the personality of the elder body. We venture to meetings occassionally. Same congreation for the last 4 years. They still ask us whether we are visiting or they offer us a bible study.

If it's someone from their own book study group, yes, probably, to save face in front of the other elders as each elder is responsible for his own book study. For the most part, everything about the witnesses is about outward appearance, so I'd say yes if it concerns that particular elders reputation in front of his fellow elders on the body. But that being said, I was in congregations where a publisher could not attend for months, and I'd hear them say no one had called them at all. So, it's a mixed bag apparently

i looked after my group...i presumed other group study conductors were doing similarly.

if a member of my group was missing then i presumed it was because they were not well so phoned or popped by to see how they were. i didn't have to go looking for them at the hall cos they would all come say hi anyway and i was never too busy.

if they knew in advance they were unable to attend they would let me know.

i neither hounded them nor did it to save face.

    i simply cared.

I had a book study conductor once who used to take attendance of the members of his book study at EVERY meeting (not just the book studies). I was outraged when I found out about it.

Everybody notices when other miss meetings and they talk about them to others.

in my hall before that, I could light myself on fire, run out of the hall screaming and not one elder would come out to see if I was ok

LOL! We were in an old "core" congregation where everybody knew everybody else since before the flood. We had the chronic "Hawaiians", the weakees, the sickees and the newees. Every so often the CO would get us all jacked up to make 'shepherding' calls and we would make home visits on the annoyed ones for a few weeks. Now that I think about it I don't recall anybody being truly "reactivated".

LOL So true! Especially when you have an ex mother-in-law who's DF'd daughter blames you for her inability to get reinstated!

I think the hounder conducting the book study always knew whether or not I was at the boasting session. They hounded me when the person regularly giving me rides to the Kingdumb Hell was out on a talkout and I forgot to call for a ride (at first, it happened maybe once or twice a year). They wanted me to explain how I could possibly forget, and tried to devise a system to keep me from ever forgetting (as if people could be perfect in not forgetting).

Somehow, they wanted to hold me to exemplary standards without giving me any of the benefits. I wonder what they are going to do when they realize that I have turned apostate and that I have the Christmas tree up.
