In Australia, "floats" are called "spiders".

    Root beer shmoot beer

I was in A&W and everyone else ahead of me ordered Root Beer. "I'll give it a go" I thought ... "It's so popular it must be nice"

I then sat there wondering if I got a bad batch or something because it is VILE. Everyone else seemed to be drinking theirs though so it must just be a cultural taste. I think it's because in the UK the ingredients were used in medicine or dissinfectant or something so Root Beer just seems to be 'essence of hospital'. Yuck.

My younger brother liked it when he came over the other week but I just put that down to stupidity (waves)

Hell no. It's an abomination and an insult to all that is edible. What kind of twisted freak do you take me for.

Right. My friend from Britian said the same when he first tried it. He told me, "What's the big deal about it?". It is, I suppose, an acquired taste for those not exposed to that flavor in the form of a soda.

I like saspirila (sp?) and birch beer much more then rootbeer. They are not as sweet and do not have an entire chemical warehouse for ingredients. You can make all of them at home for very little money and time and end up with a better tasting product then the commercial stuff.
