The Tower view of marriage is that the only bond shall be that both partners should be exemplary members of the organization. What is supposed to attract you? Pioneer. Hounders. People in Beth Hell. Attending every meeting. Being super-proficient in field circus. [Self] Righteous.

Didn't it occur to them that a perfect marriage has to have all the elements? People that are spiritually compatible may be emotionally incompatible. Otherwise, there is going to be verbal (and sometimes physical) abuse. And physical attraction is not insignificant, either.

Besides, where is the test drive? The Tower expects people to enter a marriage without any sort of test driving. Dates have to be supervised. No sexually experimenting with each other to make sure you are truly compatible. One wouldn't buy a car, which is expected to be replaced after several years, without test driving it. Then why do they expect people to "buy" a marriage, which is not to be replaced ever, without test driving it in any way? Dates without supervision allow that testing it out to happen. Spending time together without anyone prying in is necessary to make sure the couple will be sexually and emotionally compatible before committing to marriage. So what if fornication happens at that stage?

Oh I know what this is like. Is "it" done with the lights off? Heck yeah. I am so glad to be leaving it. I wrote a bit about this earlier this year. http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/12/126838/1.ashx Isaac

What was said earlier about "test driving" match my thoughts exactly. I have now tried dating normally and it is such a different experience. One day (hopefully soon) I can talk more about it but my God, what the hell was I doing when I dated and married as a JW? Isaac

You were trying to please the Almighty Sovereign of the Universe, Jehovah God.

    Turns out we were wrong.

    About so many things.

I hope things are working out well for you, Isaac.

A "Theocratic" marriage? Sounds pretty "sterile" to me ... no joy, no fun, no excitement, no happiness, no companionship ... no nothing! Zzzzzzzzz.....

Just mere days of existence filled with field circus, meetings, meetings and more meetings, book study, personal study, pioneering, commenting .... blech!
