Feeling very sad as my youngest son is making plans to move out by next month. His older brother and himself plan on renting an apartment together and they just went to look at one in their price range.

Yes I can have a guest bedroom now and a spotless bath for anyone visiting......

Just feeling very sad about the youngest ready to be on his way which is only right. I suppose I won't feel so sad when we get the first request for financial assistance.

    Changling...

I am fearful of that too! My mother in law just broke her leg about a month ago. She is in a rehab place....her other leg was damaged by polio.

We will now have the perfect landing place.....She is a great lady, don't get me wrong...but I know it will be a huge undertaking.....epecially with 2 large dogs that may knock her over.

I love her dearly, just worry about what is involved.

Restrangled: it's not an empty nest until they take their crap out of the garage (or attic - whever it is).

Also DO NOT discount the possibility that one or more of them will come back, perhaps at the same time.

Ok, I'm really hurrying now, so your mother-in-law doesn't beat them to the guest room!

Don't worry, I'll pay for the airfare (one way, of course), and I'll ship you all their belongings, including a supply of "Depends".

I will also throw in the hadicapped parking permit and sticker for your car!

A coworker friend of mine had her kids all moved out a year or so ago, and she took it pretty hard. She was in an extremely depressed state for at least a month, but she got over it. I remember her baking cookies and bringing them to work every day. She always liked to bake and I suspect it reminded her of her kids. Must be an empty feeling.

Changling...you haven't paid for that airfare yet have you? I am ROFL.....

John Doe, well my youngest doesn't eat sweets but I'm sure I will be making bigger dinners hoping to entice the fellas back to at least eat. They love my Blue Cheese mashed potatoes and gravy...I'll probably be buying potatoes by the kilo.

    Change the locks! Quick!

Hey Restrangled, I know it's not the same as your flesh and blood, but there are, and will be, plenty of newbie young folks on JWD who would love to have an electronic "surrogate Mom".

    Take care.

Are you kidding....I had a "better than sex day" when my kid moved out the house. He came back a couple weeks later and we'd already had the walls repainted, the carpet steam cleaned, and exercise equipment set up in the room. He didn't care for that too much.
