Well my heart goes out to you...when my youngest left for college last year I think I had a mini breakdown. I redid the whole house from ceiling to floors by myself.

She came back for the summer, and I thought "Geee I have come to like the quiet, and when does school start again." It does make you feel like a fish out of water for awhile, but you will come to like it eventually. Also, it makes it so much sweeter when they come home to visit. It is wonderful.

I think my empty nest syndrome lasted about 8 years, 4 when my son joined the Navy and 4 when he became a civilian again. I'm pretty much over it now. He's 33.

When he left for the Navy, I bought a Harley. That was my coping mechanism.

Thanks everyone...just testing the water here to see what I'm in for! Do I dare repaint and decorate to get over my sad feelings, and yes our bedroom will be a much freer place without a 20 year old across the hall!

I've made plans for decorating, but am feeling the last mommy strings being cut.

He is very independent, but I still make sure he eats, I do his laundry etc and worry about him! For me, he moves furniture, picks stuff up at the store, opens jars, carry's stuff, unloads the car for me etc..... and is just his general sweet self always around in the house. He is not demanding , is quiet, and we love all his friends. He has never been in trouble, never had a ticket, does great in college and just generally is a great 6 foot 5 inch fella.

In the long run, its really sad to be loosing "my woobins"....his baby name.....good god I would never call him that to his face, but thats how I feel.

Do you all remember the Cosby show and Bill wanting to get his kids out of the house, and they kept coming back? ;-)
