My husband rarely uses the word around my kids, he uses it mostly around his friends who are black and no I do not let my kids hang out with kids who use the word...that would be rare anyway since we live in a mostly white community.

I don't know him and haven't seen his show but I do know that a white guy cannot use that word on TV without repercussions ... he should be aware of that if he wants to carry on being on TV.
However, I don't think it means he is a racists just because he used that word.

Racially offensive words should be colorblind and not used by anyone.
It would be a sad day in hell when we can't let our kids hang out with African american kids because they will start repeating the N word. How do you explain a double standard to a child?

I like Dog, sometimes watch his show, but I don't think he is by nature a racist. I think he was hurt and angry about and for his son. Oftentimes, people will lash out in anger when in a confrontation with another human being, especially with someone that they are very emotionally attached to. As a result, they will use the most demeaning and humiliating terms that come to mind, to ESPECIALLY hurt the one that they feel has hurt them. The words c*nt, who*e, and sl*t are especially hurtful to females; while the term n*gger* is especially demeaning to a black person.
I think his apology was sincere -- and should be accepted at face value. I believe he just was severely hurt and ranting as a result of it.

I know that people speak more freely when they are in private.
Should a private convo be the reason he loses his show?
That said, I heard what he said, and the language he used was imho, blatantly racist.
As a caucasian or 'white' person myself, I would never utter that word, and I can honestly say I never have.
It would never cross my mind to call someone else that in anger. I think that words uttered in anger are the most honest.
Is it racist if you say it in anger to someone else? Some here have said it's not. To me, it is.
I don't really care that people joke around using that word when it is putting down racism itself.
Black people who joke using that word, are taking away the power of that word.
It's the derogatory term there were called openly only 50 years ago, if they want to make fun of it,
and it makes them feel better, then go for it.
I would never though, since that word hasn't hurt me.
Words like ''white trash'' and ''honkey'' or ''cracker'' are to me, are mean words, but not as offensive as the N word, but, that could be because I have never been made fun of simply because of my skin colour. I get offended if anyone uses the C word towards me, but get IRATE if a man uses that terms to describe any woman.
If there was a radical change, and all of a sudden white people were a minority and were enslaved.
The N word would have no more power at all. It might even change meanings to be a word of power. It is just a word, but because of the meaning attatched to it, that is what gives it power.
It would be like ''white trash'' (which is not a nice term), but it doesn't have the emotionally charged meaning that the N word does.
''White trash'' would suddenly have another meaning altogether if 'white' people were enslaved.
I hope I have not offended anyone....

NOT ALL BLACKS USE THAT WORD! I'm rolling my eyes here because with the one statement you're assuming that any black child you see on the street or who may go to school with your child automaticly just because they are black use that word incessively continually and that's just not true. Yes my husband uses it but rarely in front of my kids but we have clear bonundries in my house and my children know that they are not ever allowed to use that sort of language in or outside of my house. If I ever caught a whiff that they might be doing it they know they will have hell to pay. And you know what? That's how I was raised by my parents (and it had nothing to do with being a jw) and how my parents were raised and that hold true for my extended family. That word was just not used in everyday speech and that still holds true. So please stop with the board statements.

P.S. One more point when I was thirteen my family moved into a white neighborhood we hope that we would have nice neighbors who would accept us (they did) but one unspoken fear was that some white kid would get up the balls to say that word (which I believe has happened to other black children who have moved into white neighborhoods). Now I've been living in my town for over five years now and it is majority white and for the first few months I held my breath and hoped that my children would not have to hear that word directed to them from a white child...it hasn't happened and I hope it never does.

I never said or even implied all of them did. I will say that any that do should stop and for several reasons, nobody should be defending the N word for any reason.

You certainly haven't offend me - however - you should read more history. White people have been enslaved for many years past - have you never heard of the slave trade between Africa and the British Isles? Never heard of the English selling off their own to plantation owners or stealing their own children to sell off? Many poor white English were sold off/auctioned off or 'indentured' by that government to the wealthy Americans prior to the African slave trade. sammieswife.

It is true not all blacks use the n word, but I agree, I won't use the word because I don't want my white friends to use the n word.
Once you make it a practice to use certain words, it gets harder to filter out when to you it and when not to use.
You are better off never using the word if you want to avoid insulting some one.
Many blacks, my age and younger do not have the same emotional outrage when they hear the n word, because the word was never used in a negative way to us DIRECTLY, but there is still a generation of people alive today, that had this word used towards them as the ultimate insult, as a way to make you feel less that human.
If all of us Black and White remember how and why this word was used in the first place, then maybe none of us would ever use it.
I my opinion, maybe Dog's son feels that his dad is a racist, and his use of theN word is just proof of that.
After all, it is his father and let's face it, he knows Dog better than any of us.

Looks like an implication to me...maybe you just didn't word it right.
