Five I met online at JW chatrooms.
OH my. I find this very disturbing. If I am understanding this right, people who have the internet, are more likely to turn into exJW's.

I am working in the backyard today and thinking......

about the JW community we had online. We weren't unhappy with the organization. We were drawn together online~~~~ with a need to be social. So many of us were not married, some were young, and most were just looking for companionship. I remember feeling so badly for chatters that were just so totally ignored and isolated in their congregations. No one understood them/us. We could have socialization and companionship out of our own homes with other Jehovah Witnesses. We met each other in person, many from other countries. Many people came to my house from Australia, Europe and all over the states.

As time went by, the society counselled onliners how bad the internet was. Many closed down some really good JW sites set up for exchange of information. Isolated people in the congo, had had the opportunity to study with someone, get more information online for WT studies. That was all done away with.

We played games, exchanged musics. pictures, culture. grew with the internet. I started in 1999.

9/11 really bonded many of us. We thought about the world more, not just our little worlds.

For me, finding this site was not to look for apostate literature........... it is a Jehovah Witness Discussion Board, and I thought wow, More JW's online, yippie!! JW people that did not listen to the society and were still online!!!

Plus they were openly talking about thoughts, feelings and doubts I myself, had about the organization.

As time went by, I felt deeply saddened that the Society kept telling JW's to stay offline. We really kept up with each other and probably was the only reason some were still going to meetings.

I wonder how many out there from years ago are OUT totally. I guess time will tell.

    purpie,

When that room finally shutdown, I had done great damage, as it were. A few came here, as well as yourself. Which pleased me very much to WITNESS. I still find myself wondering what happened to a great many of them. 'LadyJudy'/JUDGEJUDY I am sure, is still as devout as ever. Dent and DeeDee came here, which I miss seeing them now.

I remember those days back then. My 'fever' for truth and justice. My vengence. My complete brokeness. I truly felt that what I was DOING was righteous and just. Yet today, it's a different type of that feeling. I can't explain it though. Nor will I.

I'm just glad you made it out L.

Are you saying that prim was an about.com chatter too? If so, under what name?

The girl from Oz had a younger brother, right? Her name started with an E. I'm sure you recall whom I am referring to.

Any hoot, after about.com closed up, I found my way to yahoo jw chat. Those days trump the early days of about.com So much was accomplished. I can say that today I feel a great satisfaction in all that I've set out to accomplish in exposing the organization for the fraud that it is. There are others now that MUST do the brunt of this work, yet they just don't realize it yet.

They will. But I can't spend energy anymore trying to get these 'others' to fully realize what is so simple. They can spend their own energy now. Many of 'us' are tired of It All. Waiting for the ones who can make the difference to actually do so, is exhaustive in itself.

    Shame on Them.

Take good care L. I read your posts and remember how 'in' you were and now how 'out' you are. Have a wonderful life my friend.

    Sincerely, sKally

There was a very strong dynamic going on back then. The jws just could not RESIST going to places online where they knew fully that apostates and opposers gathered. And those of other beliefs.

The dynamic was the temptation to go online where they were forbidden to go offline. And the WTBTS was well aware of these places and the activity of the jws, as well as the apostates. Thusly, the article started addressing these issues.

When I would tirelessly question the jws on this dynamic they would, of course, say that "we can go here but we are urged to use caution". In which I would say, how cautious are you now being talking to an apostate? They loved the conflict online with apostates because offline there was no way in hell they would even come near us, knowingly.

ONLINE was a safe haven of sorts.

Like this forum. How many here live in fear they will be caught here and with apostates and opposers? It's exhaustive to WITNESS this dynamic and not be able to DO anything, anymore. They are choosing just like you did.

I hope you never go back.

Yes, you are right, I was hopeless in any debate with an apostate. I could always see the other side of things.

You planted many seeds back then. Alot sprouted years later for me.

But I know many JW's back then, that loved when the apostates came in the chat rooms. We sharpened our wits, and back then you had to be sharp and fast on both sides. It was a fast moving chat room and there was no banning, blocking or ignoring. Those of us that did not go to yahoo went to msn and set up communities there. When msn started charging for chat rooms there was another scatter.

Early on there were alot of elders that posted, slowly alot of them quit being online. I assume that many of them worked their way out of the org. I never looked at apostate literature until I came to JWD. So I was online from 1999 until 2005 without using the internet to research the Society!

It's not that I was so obediant, I just did not care. Basically I was happy.

I am thinking about the names you mentioned in your first post on this thread. I actually may have an old list of people and email addresses from back then.

And I will ask Primitive Genious if he wants his old JW name exposed. I am not sure he is totally OUT.
