never looked at apostate literature until I came to JWD

    Oh, but yes you did.

I made sure of it for everyone by cutting/ copying and pasting contents of "apostate material" from many places; mainly threads from here. Especially 'NormH's' essays. And of course, the lead up to DATELINE.

You absolutely WITNESSED apostate material daily there. So did yahoo chat.

MSN never appealed to me, yet I would scan the rooms. Never 'entered'.

I remember well. I remember suggesting a JW watch DATELINE when it was aired, and having never seen it, I had no idea what really was going to be on.

He was very offended by my suggestion and I got a very hateful email for suggesting it.

This is an exciting thread for you, purps. Much going on!

Welcome to the Board Trevanian......btw why did you choose that name?

    purps

I've been here for a year or so, but thanks for the welcome.

Trevanian is the author of a brilliant book titled Shibumi. Read it if you get a chance. And you heard it here first - I think it may be made into a film soon.

For decades the identity of Trevanian remained unknown, although after his death in 2005 he was revealed as Dr Rodney Whitaker.

Read Shibumi if you get a chance. You'll understand why once you've read it.

    This disturbs me.

Why do you call it "the truth"?

cuz that is just what it is called.

purps, that's not what it's called.

It's called by many names, but the truth is not one of them.

    Unless you're one of them.

It brings back alot of memories. I believed what the internet had to offer for people. A way to meet others, exhange ideas, without the limitations you have in the "real" world. You can be relatively poor and have access to the internet and be just as educated as anyone.

Alot of the mystery and mystique is gone from many years ago. Alot of what early posters of JWD experiance. The honeymoon is over. We are lightyears away from coming online in 1999.

I will read that book, thanks for the recommendation

    Unless you're one of them.

well, i was one of them for 20 years.....I am beginning to wonder if I know you, maybe as another poster?

edited to add: I wish everyone I met online as JW's would get out. I loved them dearly.

    The honeymoon is indeed over.

However, who can forget the original H2O in 1995?

I am beginning to wonder if I know you, maybe as another poster?

How far back does your memory stretch? Or indeed, how near?

Wherever you go, you take yourself with you.

Exactly, purps. That's why we're all on this silly board, right?

    Thanks, but it's Trevanian.

hope to hear more from you on the board.

You probably won't hear too much from me. My message is simple, but people don't take too kindly to it.

Be honest. Think through the issues honestly, and then decide if you can live the dishonest life that Jehovah's Witnesses require you to lead.

    It's as simple as that.

If you can deal with the cognitive dissonance, the raging in your brain, that says:

    "This is crap."

"No it can't be crap. I've always believed this."

    "But it sounds like crap."

"It can't be rubbish. My parents before me believed it."

"But it still sounds like nonsense."

"How could my dear parents have believed nonsense?"

"It's not their fault. But it really seems like life control."

"No, it's not life control. Everything I do is of my own free will. Every hour I turn in on my service report is my own free will."

"But they are making you do it."

"No, they're not. I get in my car and go on field service on my own. Nobody holds a gun to my head."

Well, then they have you truly in their grasp.

If one person honestly evaluates their own life in the context of this post, I'll be happy.

    Be honest.
