Another Flawed, Misleading Awake 12/8/01

  Hi Metatron,

  Thanks for your informative posts! What struck me is that, no matter what the subject is, the WTBS puts the worst possible spin on it. This is because they have to prove how terrible everything is.

  Nary do you see a positive article about something the 'world' is doing. Well, except the UN--but now we all know why they did that.

  They write only about the negative and put it in the worst light possible. E.g., how many articles do you see on the holidays informing readers of the closeness of families, warmth of traditions, etc.? Only any negative aspects they can exaggerate to a frenzy.

  Such shallow writing, it's too bad I didn't see it sooner. Although often I did, but did nothing about it.

  Which is the very explanation why the WTBTS acts as it does.

  It takes caring people to expose incongruities that allows someone to make an informed choice.

  Most of the very 'alluring' pictures are clothed women in slightly revealling fashion instead of the butt-naked, 'here it is' porn which doesn't quite have the same appeal.

  In the UK the mans magazines such as Maxim, FHM, GC do quite well I think. I have no idea of how well porn magazines do though but I've never seen anyone buy any (I guess they have perfected some 'stealth' technique, LOL)

  That's it! When it's bad news in their favour or some stuff the GB just happens to dislike. How many JWs died in the Nazi concentration camps?

  Your question goes straight to the heart of one fundamental defect of so-called WT ``journalism:'' unattributed quotes and unnamed sources. Their stuff would never pass muster with any self-respecting newspaper editor.

  I agree. But I still don't know whether the figures Metatron is quoting from the Awake are accurate _AND_ Metatron doesn't either.

  Those who hate JW's use the techniques of propaganda just like the Watchtower.

  When it comes to reading anything in the news that I have an in-depth interest I find all sorts of errors. You could spend your whole life writing to editors about their mistakes. Of course if the Watchtower is from Jehovah it shouldn't have any mistakes!!

  I think this is a cheap shot from Metatron. By cheap - I mean - he didn't have to invest much time or thought to nip at the Watchtower's ankles. Apparently he is content with this tactic because he hasn't cared enough to follow through.

  I don't know what you want or expect - you can look up the
  Forbes article and judge for yourself.

  As for questioning the Society, no thank you.
  They have proven, time and time again to be dishonest and
  flatly unconcerned with reality - when it conflicts with their
  preconceptions. I've tried repeatedly in the past to correct
  errors in publications as countless others have done. Recall
  Alan F.'s experience trying to confront one Writing Staff
  member about quotations out of context. My God!, the Governing
  Body refused to apologize for Rutherford's public anti-semitic
  remarks!

  As if this wasn't enough, I have the experience of a molested
  child within my own family. Elders lied, covered up - and
  later admitted it. With all the evidence plainly in sight,
  the Society refused to take action or right any wrongs done.

  If these men can't dispense justice in the case of molested
  children, what makes you think they care about anything
  truthful, accurate, or concerned with simple human decency?
