Brent, I agree with you. Both my parents I believe had issues and I'm not sure they should have even had children. But I also think the cult enhanced their already screwed up little brains! Unfortunately 7 children suffered because of it. Maybe if the JW's were really who they pretend to be, it would have balanced out my parents already wacko issues. But as we all know - they are full of it and do nothing to protect children, or show love to anyone. Abusive parents can very effectively hide behind the JW rules.

Waaayyy too much going on in my childhood for me to be able to pinpoint the cause of my "dysfunction". LOL

I know that it never helped me in any way to be a witness. There was too much stress and fear involved for it to be a positive experience.

I used to feel happy and allmost envious of those who grow up in the "truth" but it didn't take long before I could see that they were a bit messed up and were lacking something, of course this was long before I realised that it wasn't the truth at all, by that time I could see why they were messed up and I was happy that I never was raised in the "truth"

I'm not so screwed up NOW, and hopefully getting better everyday.

There are challenges to overcome in any environment you are raised. But without a doubt, the high control WTBS did not help my already damaged parents one bit. I know they had a hole in their soul that the WTBS filled, and it could have been anything or any other organization that seem to offer them the hope they needed. It is what it is.

The more I think about it, the more I wish I could go back in time and find the person who introduced the whole JW thing to my family and beat them into an unrecognizable pile of pink goo. Who knows how my life would have turned out of not for that crap!

It screwed up my life in some respects as not getting an education made it harder for our family. However, Clyde and I have come out of it, I feel, as better persons and our marriage is better than it ever was. It wasn't so great for quite awhile

Clyde always says, "The best revenge is living well." He's not talking about material prosperity, necessarily, but the ability to be happy, content, and giving, and help enrich the lives of others in some way.
