Last week, Mr. Bee was griping because, not only was I serving him a Sauvignon Blanc (he prefers Chard), but it was improperly chilled!
I just looked at him and said, "And those people in third-world countries, eating dirt and dodging bullets, think they have it rough! They don't know deprivation till they've been served a substandard vintage that's 5 degrees too warm!"
Shut him right up, it did.

thank you... and peace to you!
I know there are some here who might believe me to be... ummmm... unfeeling... because I say little with regard to the "angsts" many are experiencing after having left (or while planning to leave) the Borg, including what they get from family. I get it, truly; however, I can never lose sight of what others in the world are experiencing and sometimes, well, I get just a little "impatient" with "us."
Personally, I don't think we have a right to moan and groan as we do, because no matter HOW hard our lives are here (the "Western" world), it still doesn't compare to what others are going through... EVERYDAY... in other parts of the world. At least, not in "America." In "America"... our WORST situation (i.e., living on the street, eating out a garbage can, covered with ulcers and reeking of feces), short of physical/terminal illness and death... is STILL better than the BEST situation in some places.
Yet, "we" are "worried" because, perhaps, certain family won't talk to us anymore. As traumatic as that can be, I cannot see comparing it to having flies live off the mucus in my undernourished baby's eyes. I cannot see it comparing to the malaria, dysentery or fever ravaging my child, my parent, my loved one... in an unspeakable manner. Perhaps that why we don't see many from such countries posting here (that, and a lack of access to the Internet altogether, which WE don't have to worry about and is yet another reason for "us" to REJOICE!).
True, certain family and/or other loved ones no longer speak to me... but that is THEIR choice. I did not stop loving THEM... and I will not. I am also not going to let THEM... rob me of my JOY. And so, it is my SINCERE hope that many here, while not asking us to overlook or forget the personal pain they're experiencing, will forgive those of us who simply can't jump on that wagon. For US, everyday out of the grips of the Borg... and insitutions like it... is a reason to REJOICE... even if it resulted in the loss of family or other loved ones.
Again, thank you for the reminder. "We" truly needed it.
A slave of Christ,

No matter how bleak things may look in the present, or may look in the future, that is always my view, "it could always be worse".
Food, shelter, hot and cold running water is more than many in the world have.
Thanks nvr.

a person from the third world spoke to me the other day....saying he had a picture of my mother in law on his mud hut wall to remind him how much worse life could be......I told him to take it off immediately.....or else the wall would start crumbling......and gave him the sage advice to put it on the village gates to stop lions from entering.....ninja the caring

Good thread nvrgbk,
We usually dont appreciate what we have because we are too busy pissing and moaning about what we want.
