DODGE CITY, Kansas (CNN) -- This past Saturday morning I found myself in a five-car caravan cutting across the Kansas plains with about 30 religious protesters. In the back of a truck, there were signs that read "Thank God for IED's" and "Thank God for Dead Soldiers."

I was with the Phelps family. They've launched a disturbing campaign to tarnish the funerals of fallen soldiers.

in future those who declare wars on anyone should be in the front line leading the troops....that will test their mettle

You know in the old days of yore this was how wars were fought. Even Washington lead his fights. But this chicken turd Bush is just that nothing more than a turd.

I am a vet also, I am not a war vet but none the less an honorably discharged vet. When Reagan took office he passed a bill that if you did not use your benefits after two years of leaving the military you lost them all, I lost them all ! Even my college that I had coming.

I have been telling ny nephews to stay out of the services for right now at least and all the young men I say the same.

I know this has happened in the past too but this really hit me hard when I saw this young mans face and for him to even having to apply for anything is just plain absurd.

    Yep.

    It's horrible.

I hope this makes some people wake up.

    Peace, oldflame.

I think this was posted on another thread! He will feel betrayed for life that those he thought he was laying his life down for are now so ambivalent about his future! He will feel he went to the edge for those who wouldn't even look him up!

I saw the program on CNN. It was so sad. The man with his face blown off got married to his fiance when he returned, but they are getting a divorce now. He's got to be totally messed up psychologically. And yet he was fighting for benefits.

Another man was told he didn't have PTSD, but rather an anxiety syndrome that was not service related so they wouldn't have to pay benefits. Same man was also told that schrapnel? throughout his body was not service related. He had his arm blown off from a IUD and had traumatic brain syndrome, but still had to fight for benefits.

It is disgusting. I agree that the one who starts the war should have to lead the fight. Then maybe they would see it in a different light.

Canon fodder is all people are when politicians send them to their "righteous wars"

The legacy is dead people and worse for politicians ,is crippled people coming back , that's why you're politicians don't send their own kids to war.

Yeah isn't that funny, the politicians make war and then hide theri own children from it. What a bunch of cowards if you ask me they should be the first ones there to fight.
