I often wore sweaters and no ties, suit but no tie, slacks and shirt with no tie no jacket. And when asked where the i.e. tie, jacket was I would say at home, why where do you leave yours., or if not in a good mood, would tell them i haven't forgotten a thing you have you are not my daddy and you sure aren't my wardrobe servant so mind you business and don't bother me again.

Like giving talks as a ms they wanted you in a suit not slacks and non matching jacket, was told one time that i couldn't give a part at the sales meeting, I just smiled and said fine, I won't give any parts any more how about that. Resigned my commission so to speak and went and sat down. They were a little dumfounded as they had no one else prepared to give that part except me. The PO quickly came to me and told me to just give the part and we will overlook the clothing matter for now, I said okay gave the part and still resigned my commison no more parts, When they wanted to know why I told them, Jesus didn't require his apostels no his followers to be dressed in any particular fashion and the bible doesn't either you are trying to make clothing styles a matter of law. Matthew 15:9 applies. I never did give another part there either and dropped right out of the school too.

This has to be one of the stupidest things on the planet. Dressing up in very hot weather with the suit coat is not sensible. What does Jehovah expect, for people to have that coat on when it is very hot?

I didn't even like it when they wanted me to dress for what they called comfortable in field circus, since I came in used to the cold. Apparently, they feel that everyone needs to be dressed up regardless of the weather. After all, the angels do not need to alter their dress for the season.

When trying to be supportive of my wife, I would wear a shirt and tie, but no jacket. Honestly, each and every time I wore it, one of the kids would puke, spit up, sneeze, drool or any other sort of gross bodily fluid all over my jacket.

Eventually the cost of dry cleaning far out weighed my desire to fit in. A few brothers commented on it, but I told them that I'd wear a jacket when they would contribute to my dry cleaning fund. Turns out, it wasn't that important to them afterall.

As usual, my experience was screwed up. I had no problem wearing a suit and tie. But the JWs were always on my ass because I wore my suit jacket in summer. The'd nag me to take it off so I wouldn't be so hot. Naturally, I was annoyed by this. I'll decide when I'm comfortable and when I'm not, and I'm perfectly capable of adjusting my clothing accordingly without their interference.

Long after I was out, my wife continued to take my son to the meetings. At one time in his life he was growing faster than we could keep up and his meeting clothes got a little tight. to continue to try to make the meetings in comfort, he started wearing the collar of his shirt open, no tie and no jacket. Well, one day they both came from meeting and I could see that he was clearly upset. The wife had stood by and allowed the "brothers" to grill him about his dress dress, particularly, no tie and jacket, things he couldn't help because he was growing faster than we could keep up. These were the same "brothers" BTW who tried grilling me when I decided to go back to school, but that's another story...... I could tell at that time that his days of attempting to tow the JW line were done. I didn't have to say anything, they'd done all the work for me.

I also find myself doing that. Whenever I do go to a JW function with her, I find myself intentionally wearing or doing something that makes me stand out whether it's displaying overt happiness about the way my life is going without them or refusing to wear a jacket or tie.

    ''Where's your jacket brother"

How about.............''You can't take your jacket off''.

I quit going to the ''book study'' about 8 years ago due to the book study conductor telling all the men that we couldn't take our jackets off. He said,''Taking off our jackets shows a lack of respect when you are in Jehovah's house''.

That day it was around 103 degrees. The family who had the ''book study'' in their home wouldn't put on the central air-conditioner because they were too cheap. It was so hot in the house that a sister who had asthma passed out from the extreem heat in the house. We took her outside because it was cooler there than inside. Finally, the conductor told the brothers that only this time were we permitted to take our jackets off.

When I was around 10 years old, there was a pair of always bickering (fleshly) brothers in my hall. I think one was 11 and one was 13. One meeting the 13 year old came dressed in a knit short sleeve shirt (think Polo or Izod) and a tie with a HUGE knot. For what ever reason, the 11 year old and I weren't wearing ties that meeting. The 11 year old couldn't help making fun of the 13 year old and his "dumb shirt" with the tie. The 13 year old's reply was "At least I have enough love for my creator to wear a tie to the meeting." Yup, that's what the mindset was. Wearing tie = good witness boy. Not wearing tie = junior apostate. Last I heard little brother is an elder and big brother checked out years ago.

Not sure what this has to do with jackets, but I never forgot that little vignette from my childhood...

your preaching to the choior brother. I am a very hot natured person. when I feel good, its probly freezing to everyone else. I remember when I did sound, it would be hot as hell and I would break down and take off the coat. I Got ahold of one of my letters when I switched congregations and it stated that I had issues with authority and that I would never put on my jacket cause I was rebelious. If Id known they were gonna put that in there, I would of taken off my pants too. I wondered then, if they though I was so rebelious, how come they kept using me for things.

    They were dicks.

I was told by my book study conductor that I would not be allowed to read or say a prayer at the group because I had not being a jacket 4 the last 5 weeks. I pointed out that i had a badly smashed up arm which had, as he knew, been the subject of a long operation, I said to him that it was very sore and that it was uncomfortable to wear anything other than loose clothing. He did not relent. I told him he was not Christlike, A little while later i resigned from being ms..
