Because of my background with the witless ones, when my husband died it was hard to believe he was in heaven. I could hope there is a heaven for those who die. That he is in a better place. I even hope he has 999 virgins and is having the time of his life. Whoops, different religion. When he was alive, we had come to the conclusion that the bible was written by men for that time. A political move to bring the empire together. I want the "when you die, you go to heaven by the grace of Jesus" to be true. But I can't help wondering if this is something to make the people who live cope better with a loved one dying. I struggle with this every day. What are your thoughts? Do you believe in a streets of gold heaven where you go when you die? Thanks for letting me use you as a sounding board. Keep Smiling The Widow
What do you think heaven holds?

I believe 'heaven' is what we make of it.
If "your" view of heaven makes you cope better with the loss of a loved one, then why look any further, at least for now.
Your view may change with time. But personally, I do believe in a better place. And that keeps me going through my highs and lows. And for now, that is all that matters.
Wishing you the best...

Never believed in it but now I do. It will be heavenly. "ahhhh". I read a neat book that father Mick recommended called A Vacationer's Guide to Heavan. It is supposed to be based completely on the bible and what it says about heaven and the things Jesus could do after his resurrection. Not sayin' I agree with all of it, but it was an amazing book and I never knew the bible had so much say about heaven.

I have no scientific reason to even beleive there is a heaven unless it exists in another dimension which we are not aware of. All religious experience can be traced to a region of the brain that gives vivid imagery when the other areas are silenced through meditation. They have proven this by doing brain scans on monks and nuns while in there altered states of consiousness.
The common experience many have in near death experience,is a long tunnnel and a light at the end of it. If this were so,I would say go towards the light. In a purely physical sense however, this experience can be traced to the body shutting down and producing endorphines. If you have ever halucinated, and I have, the experience is so real, you would swear it was happening in real time and space.
I think the elimination of pain in the physical world would be heaven. I can't say what it would be like in another dimension. There is energy in everyone and it has to go somewhere. Death itself is the elimination of pain, so one might say that this is a state of bliss. I would only say that consciousness in a physical world is painful. Unconsciousness is nothing. Unless one slips into another form of life upon passing, there is nothing! Not just that, if there was a heaven, it would be relative to the form of consciousness that expeiences it.
Some feel that good energy belongs in a good place and bad energy belongs in a bad place. Yet here we have both, coexisting together. ( Ying & Yang) Can you have one without the other? Deepak Chopra beleives that there is no such thing as sin, it is just a journey of learning.
Until things can be proven scientifically, this will always fall under the category of wishful thinking and philosophy. I am sorry to hear about your husband and I don't mean to take away any hope from anyone. I am just trying to be realistic.

Hi Widow. I am still a believer in all the promises made in scripture as it pertains to a ressurection from death, to life, in Christ Jesus. I can't believe that God allows us to be here for these brief few hours with nothing to look forward to, afterward. The world is in a sickly condition, yes, I, however believe that God still has our best interest at heart with our returning to forever. Being allowed to make a new begining once these things have come to pass. The universe is an awesome habitat for humanity. I can never believe that any of this was an accident. I still desire nothing that relates to heavenly life but continue to hope for a paradise earth to come back to.

Before I consciously existed I have no knowledge of myself. And neither do I expect anything when I die. If there is anything time will tell. I know and feel what I am and that is too much already so what's next is off the menu!

I don't know what is over there exactly (besides being in the presence of God), Widow, but I believe it is wonderful and glorious beyond description.
However, as it is written:
"No eye has seen,
no ear has heard,
no mind has conceived
what God has prepared for those who love him
