Regional Building Committee decisions boggles even a dubs mind...

I recall a major renovation at my last hall. It was shared by 3 congregations, and they worked for some time to save the money to do it. The project included making the hall wheelchair accessible, as there were many elderly and handicapped people in it. At any given meeting there would be 7-10 people tied in by phone because they couldn't get into the hall.

    Enter the regional building committee.

The RBC decided to nix the part of the project to make the hall wheelchair accessible, even though the bulk of the money donated came from the elderly and handicapped. Not one cent was borrowed from the WTS or anyone else. I know who donated how much because I was the account servant at the time. Some of those who donated money did so primarily for the wheelchair accessibility. These were people who were never at the hall because it was physically inaccessible to them.

Instead they spent all the money, over $125,000, on new chairs, wallpaper, and moving the washrooms around so the elders could have another meeting room where they could comfortably spew their shit. They also made the staircase to the main hall more narrow, and closed up the open space in the entrance to the main hall making the hall feel much more confined.

I asked the elders why they were allowing the RBC to run roughshod over them, since the hall was supposedly owned by our neighbouring congregation, and all the money donated by the publishers™ without any loans from the watchtower. They had no answer for me, but I think my outspokenness about this was part of the reason for my eventual deletion from that position. (the official reason for my deletion, as spoken to me, was that I was taking part time courses)

I also wonder at the amount of money spent. I did far more extensive renovations on my home, which was about the same size as the hall, for about 20% of what they spent on their renovation.

(I couldn't decide which thread to rant on today...maybe it's the rain that's making me cranky.)

Yep...it is mind boggling. We had a similar situation with my last KH. It was an old church from the 1920's and never had a remodel.

Enter the RBC, the bid for the work was larger than two outside General Contractor bids.

As I tell myself and others regularly, this is a publishing corporation. All decisions are made to benefit the corporation. They have reluctantly entered the disaster assistance arena. All monetary investments are for the corporation, never for the flock.

I heard they just built three new halls in Idaho. I asked, "New? Did they sell the old ones" "Well yeah." They just wanted to tell me the breaking news of the "new halls."

    It's quite an operation.

This subject really interests me . I have always wondered how the RBC functions . In the hall we use to belong to we had so many involved as contractors for RBC departments : electrical , flooring . wallpapering , trimwork / brickwork , accountant. food /kitchen overseer. All in one small hall (120 publishers) . Small midwest town of 6000.

I could never figure out how these brothers could afford so much volunteer work and still be so well off . All of these brothers are self employed in their own trades and we are talking pools , new cars , nice homes ,great vacations every year . I use to think they only were compensated for the materials and everything else was donated ? Bet not .....

I have to say.....you are all Right On....the RBC is a hugh Power Trip for the suits. It is a step up from their local power trip and most are addicted. Sad to say, my son is among the group. His current assignment is to interview all past, present and future volunteers. Each and every worker is to have a 'file' on them. Shades of CIA, FBI, Xfiles or worse....very scary.

Kingdumb Hells will be allowed to be run down or be forcibly remodeled at congregation expenses, not be paid for, and foreclosed on.

Foreclosed on? Foreclosed by whom? The Watchtower? Has the Watchtower actually ever foreclosed on one of their own hell-hallsholes?

Also, I hadn't heard of the halls built in Idaho? Why in Idaho? Is there something special in Idaho? My sister and her husband were "assigned" there for a while to take care of society properties. WTF????

    Another thought:

Does this same RBC take charge when it comes to disaster areas, i.e., Katrina/New Orleans?

If so, they probably jump for joy whenever a disaster happens. Just continual business for them.

And I know an high and mighty elder in the Chino Hills congregation who owns a landscaping business. He has always had the $$$$ and so do all the other elders involved in construction trades, come to think of it.

These guys were involved in the Mira Loma California building. Hmmmmm ... the light just came on for me!

    Interresting. Looks like retaliation.

Their are alot of things you can do.

Remember those little stones that david had against goliath?

Prove them to be legal from

    -City business license

    - The County Assessor, the address of the business location and if they own the property any other business at that location.

    -The State business lisence division

    -IRS (fin and/or EIN Number)

Keep in mind that unscruplous business people are in it for the $$$ and0 are not always up to speed on the laws espically roofing codes. Shingle roofing codes* are very specific as to enclosure distance and location and length of the nails which inspectors seldom look at and which is routinly not followed by installers because of a savings in materail costs* and installation time is lessened for the less experienced in nailing.

    * the county usually will require adherance to the manufacture's installation specification coupled with their, the county's code. If not followed the manufacture warranty is void. (read the packaging label)

    * saving in material cost come from the shingles being spread to far apart to cover more square footage. It seems trival but it does add up and their are sound engeernering reasons for it.

Wow I was going to be a buyer for regional and actually the plumbing is bought through my place of work for the RBC (by a non witness) so I had no idea there were contracts and people getting paid on regional. Can this be substantiated in anyway?

In the UK they are a registered charity, surely this makes the RBC "jobs for the boys" illegal and needs more investigation.
