Unfortunately, not much time was spent discussing whether or not the young man was under duress (threats of shunning) when making his decision.
Actually I was a bit disappointed with the way Kerry handled her argument. She spent way too much time trying to explain the technicalities of blood, blood fraction...etc. The host was right, to a person listening they wouldn't know what she was talking about.
JT's comment above should've been the main point in the argument. Here you have a 14 year old boy who has been abandoned by his parents. Looking for love and acceptance, he finds it with his Aunt and the JW religion. If he had chosen a blood transfusion, where would his support be? Who would he go to? All his friends would be gone, the people who were there for him would be taken away. That would have been something that listeners could have related to, IMHO.
All in all a truely sad story!
