I used to read those guys for humor, but it's become a bad one note act. All this endless speculation about dates is a waste of time. I've concluded that my time on earth needs to be spent trying to live a good life. When some event takes place, or doesn't, has no effect on what constitutes a good life. As a result the dates simply have no meaning to me.

That and the logic they use makes them sound like they're on acid.

    changeling:

I personally do not read the rantings of apologists. They come accross as being mentaly disturbed. They need professional help.

Posting on their threads encourages their delusions.

What you say may be correct...and I'm very strongly inclined to agree (and have made posts to the same effect).

However, they are allowed to continue to post here, insofar as their posts don't overtly violate any forum rules...JCanon recently made a post to that effect, and even OBVES showed a remarkable bit of honesty on a recent thread. imvho, scholar has been the most obstinate of the bunch.

If I may be indulged: Perhaps our reaction to such posters is more a test of our own character than of theirs? Rather like a touchstone?

Ok, so what does it say about those of us who don't read or post on those threads?

I think they're fun to screw with.

    Nothing at all.

Here's a bit of history: Very early on, JCanon made a typical chronology post, and I was quite impressed! I thought this fellow had really gathered a whole bunch of extra-JW info, and I was intrigued. JanH posted right back and informed me about the background, and a couple other folks I know confirmed the history. That, of course, changed my stance, and for a long time I totally avoided such threads.

Then, with a degree of frustration, I started here and there to post little snide remarks about such posts, in spite of otherwise suggesting that we all just ignore such posts, and "they" will go away.

Well, in all honesty, I was being hypocritical, wasn't I? Which is why I posted my last:

Perhaps our reaction to such posters is more a test of our own character than of theirs? Rather like a touchstone?

Perhaps my point would have been more clear if I'd said "my own character."

    1) That Paul and the Apostle John are still alive from the 1st century, never having died, along with some other members of the 12 tribes of Israel.

Now, this I know is true!!

I was driving down the road the other day and I saw the apostle John.

I know it was him because I asked my 8 BALL and it said "DEFINITELY"

He was dressed like a bum. He was trying to fit in looking like a homeless person.

He is here because he is testing people.

He is looking for good samaritians and he is taking names. I know because I saw he was carrying a clipboard and paper.

I had passed him before I realized all this, so I turned around and went back.

I was planning to give him an Awake magazine...just to let him know that I would "for sure" be one of those who would see him again.

Figured those mags are like a code so we can always recognize each other in a strange town, you know.

Anyway, I turned around...he was only two blocks behind me, but when I turned around.......he was gone! POOF! That quick. That's another reason I know it was him and he is still superhuman and can vanish.

But I think we had a mental connection and he knew I was turning around.

I am sure I passed the test.
