What kind of angel was Satan?

The bible mentions several different types of angels. Seraphim, cherubs and the archangel who is referred to as Jesus.

My question is what type of angel was Satan? I could be wrong but it seems that Satan may have been a bit more powerful than many of the other angels. The bible says that he dragged a third of the heavens down with him, this would suggest that Satan was not only very persuasive but he also may have had considerable influence. Its hard to imagine a lesser angel being able to convince more powerful angels to stop worshipping God.

Also something else to think about if Satan was able to decieve or convince angels to go againts God's wishes imagine how simple it probably was for him to trick Eve.

This brings up several interesting viewpoints:

Do humans and angels have similar reasoning faculties?

Are we as humans at a far greater disadvantage when it comes to traps set by the devil?

I'm not sure what kind of angel he was but I'm under the impression that he did have some position of oversight, maybe even a lot of ovesight for the very reasons you note. Also, it appears that he was in charge of overseeing the garden of eden.

Whatever kind of angel he and the other one third of the heavens might have been, they must have been pretty stupid. After all, they knew God had the power of life and death. Of course, he was a lot more lenient with them than he was with mankind. God shortened man's life way down, but he let the fallen angels frolick around for thousands of years. Hell, God didn't even throw them out of heaven until 1914, and they are running around the earth having a grand old time.

Ideas that make you go hmmmmmmm.

Assuming that the garden of eden story and man's creation is true, I have always wondered if satan and his buddies were/are jealous of mankind. You know, people (and I guess angels too) do stupid things when emotions take control.

Satan in a myth. A scapegoat if you will. A figment of our wonderful imagination. The fact of the matter is that good and evil are one in the same. You cannot have one without the other.

God and Satan/Good and Evil, are a part of each and every one of us. The trick seems to be finding a happy middle ground between the two. That is where happiness can most easily be attained.

    Its all relative.

Well, then the mythical Satan was a covering cherub...with the direct oversight of the earth.

Some Bible students (generic use of the term there, not meaning Russellites) understand the remarks in Ezekiel 28 regarding the ruler of Tyre as actually being directed at Satan. Given the wording, I can see where they might get that idea, since no human ruler of Tyre was present in the Garden of Eden. If this viewpoint is accurate, then Satan was apparently a cherub.

12 "Son of man, take up a lament concerning the king of Tyre and say to him: `This is what the Sovereign LORD says: "`You were the model of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.
13 You were in Eden, the garden of God; every precious stone adorned you: ruby, topaz and emerald, chrysolite, onyx and jasper, sapphire, turquoise and beryl. Your settings and mountings were made of gold; on the day you were created they were prepared.
14 You were anointed as a guardian cherub, for so I ordained you. You were on the holy mount of God; you walked among the fiery stones.
15 You were blameless in your ways from the day you were created till wickedness was found in you.

Dearest Leander... may you have peace... and may I tell you what the Bible 'really' says? Thank you.

    1. Jesus is not, was not and never will be an 'angel'. He is the Son. Angels... are spirit beings that are 'public servants'... and when my Lord came to this realm in the flesh, he made himself a little LOWER than the angels, having been HIGHER than them previously.

    2. There were two 'arkangels' (note: it IS 'ark' angel, and NOT 'arch' angel... for they were both 'angels of the ark [of the Covenant], and my Lord the 'propitiatory' or COVERING of that ark: they were Michael... who to this day 'is standing strongly' with my Lord... and the one who is CALLED 'Devil and Satan', although that is not his name (and no, it is not 'Lucifer' either, which is only a 'name' that renders the phrase 'shining one'.)

    3. The 'arkangels', of which there were only two... are also 'cherubs'... which are ALSO 'seraphs'... which are 'fiery serpents'. Thus, the 'cherubs' placed outside the Garden of Eden had 'flaming' (or fiery) swords, and the cherubs near my Father's throne are also a fiery flame. The 'cherub's... are also 'princes'... in that they have 'rulership' over 'territory' or 'principalities' (thus 'princes'). There are 'good' cherubs... and 'bad' cherubs... by means of staying in their proper place, where they were 'placed'. Satan, did not stay in his... he 'did not stand fast...'

    4. The 'four living creatures' are also 'cherubs/seraphs', by reason of their DESIGNATION/POSITION, with regard to the throne of God.

    5. Since my Lord is the Prince... of 'princes'... and he, too, is like a 'copper serpent', but plain (unlike the 'arkangels', seraphs of such beauty and brilliance that Satan is referred to as a 'shining one'), he, too, is a 'seraph'... but... he is not an 'angel'.

    6. Cherubs and angels... are not CREATURES. 'Cherub' and 'angel' are DESIGNATIONS of spirit beings. The word 'angel' means 'messenger'. Thus, a 'seraph' can be an 'angel'... a 'seraph' can be a 'cherub'... a 'seraph' can be a 'prince'... and a 'seraph'... can be a Son. Spirit beings, then, have different responsibilities, including delivering messages. So, for example, a seraph, which is a 'fiery serpent', a CREATURE, can be a 'cherub', which is a DESIGNATION.

To answer you question directly then:

Satan, who is a 'seraph' (fiery serpent... or 'dragon' - for a dragon is merely a serpent with legs and wings, yes? And he is not 'archiac' as in OLD, but 'arkaic' as in 'of the Ark'), had the designation of 'cherub' over parts of the physical realm, particularly "Persia", wherein existed the Garden of Eden, yes? Which made him a 'prince' or 'ruler'. But... he keeps TRANSFORMING himself... into an 'angel'... or 'messenger'... of Light. He is NOT, however, a messenger of Light, for my Lord is Light (John 8:12; 1:9)... and he (Satan) is NOT his (my Lord's) messenger. He (Satan) does this, however, to mislead and 'wage war'... against the holy ones... the 'seed of the woman'... who have been 'fertilized', and thus, regenerated or CONCEIVED... by the spirit of my Father, Holy Spirit... through the One the 'fertilizes' us... the Son, JAHESHUA MISCHAJAH. Thus, the Son, is called our 'Eternal Father', for it is by means of HIM... that we 'receive' the spirit of the Father.

I, myself, SJ, have spoken it to you, just as I have 'heard' it from my Father, JAH OF ARMIES, by means of His holy spirit, though His Son and Christ, my Lord, JAHESHUA MISCHAJAH.

Your servant, and a slave of Christ,

    SJ

    Iarc,

Dont forget the part about the angels forsaking "their proper dwelling place" coming down to earth, materializing human bodies and having sex with women. Who knows, maybe men too? Oh, and I'll bet they were monogamous. Then after the Flood they had the audacity to throw off their flesh and stroll back into Heaven.

    And man is rebellious?
