Chaperones?

I did court as a JW and used chaperones.........most of the time.

There were many times I would pick my ex up on my way to the KH alone so we could go in field service, since she had no driver's license. Most of the elders didn't care about this, but there was one that yanked me into the backroom one day to tell me how dangerous it was for me to do such a thing. Sometimes, we went to stores alone, but that was when it had gotten to the point where I just didn't care about getting caught anymore

We pretty much used anyone as a chaperone just to say we weren't alone. We even used children, more than one though.

In short, it was hell. There was always this tension while courting to watch your back at all times to make sure you don't "stumble" anyone. I'm SO glad to be out of that now.

    Thank you, shell

Yes, I protected their honour. And some of them were really great to be with (meening I did not feel like the third wheel), and they thanked me and all.
But usually (with most of them and others), I felt that they would not bring me along unless they had the use for me or felt they had no choice, or something.

Never had any use for a chaperone myself, that's for sure..

I was a chaperone for my brother when I was really small, then for my sister when I was in High School, I was never really asked to do it I was told, got left in the car a lot and dropped off at places till they came back.

. . .got left in the car a lot and dropped off at places till they came back.

That's one of the reasons I don't understand why JWs use siblings as chaperones, especially grade-school-age kids.

Never got far enough to bother with it. Even when I did get close enough to almost need one we just stayed at her parents house the whole time.

This is one of the first things I saw through. My friends easily got around it when they dated. It was just a tradition of men one of the many the JWs say they don't have.

My son's rarely did, and it didn't bother me one bit. If somethings going to happen, it's going to happen. Kids will always find a way to hormone out, get it? Trouble is that these young people are under so much presure to find a mate and continue to propagate the species, dubs. Kids getting married at 16, 17,what's with that???? Give em some time to make bigger choices in life than having to bend to that mind set of finding a nice theocratic mate.

Maybe they fell for that "better to marry than to burn" crap. I know my oldest brother had a friend or two who married young to get laid.

Then there was the JW father who insisted that his daughter and a young man from the congregation simply had to marry because (gasp) they'd gone door to door together!
