Even if a group's declared purpose is to overthrow some government they should be allowed to congregate and discuss their plans without direct interference.

Though you may have been taught other wise treason isn't legal in the US either, and never has been.

Treason: In this age of terrorism I guess you have to be more vigilant than usual. Actual planning of an attack should be sufficient grounds to arrest people. But, angry speech, about tearing the government down should be tolerated. Jesus talked about the temple being destroyed "Do you see all these things?" he asked. "I tell you the truth, not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down." At any rate JW's aren't a threat to any government.

Germany does not recognize Scientology as a religion. seeing it as a cult masquerading as a church to make money. Scientologists reject this view.

I think this is the point of the article.

Yes, I agree, you can say "I wish this, and I wish that" but, planning it is treason; and a crime. It always has been, it always will be, a crime.

Think what happens to Patterson and Wallkill when Witness compound members register and vote.

Witnesses could do what Bhagwhan Shree Rajneesh did in Wasco County, Oregon in 1984.

Rajneesh Commune had more votes than the county residents had and they took over the county legally (sort of).

The german govt has been closely observing scientology for decades. It must have built up a huge dossier on the cult.

Gary, I remember that cult in Oregon. Didn't they spray some salad bars with a germ with the intent to make the entire town sick so they would not vote on election day? Didn't they also poison a judge by offering him a glass of tainted water with a bad germ in it? I think this cult in Oregon is still in existence. Anyone out there know of it? As a result, I have a hard time eating at a salad bar. The Scientologists own Clearwater, Florida. The City Council, etc. I don't step foot in that town. Anyone from Tampa here? Skeeter

I used to live in Tampa, but at that time I was unaware of the Scientology connection.

Clearly, the German government is under the control of the dark lord Xenu.
