I think that individual JW's care about the ones they are close to but of course they still follow the WT rules so even close relationships are conditional. I suspect that they don't like to know that an exJW is happy and doing well without them as not only does it cause them confusion and dissonance, they might be secretly envious.

I have learned the witnesses are the same as anyone else. In most cases, they do not care about you. Jealously, hate and envy are the same everywhere.
I have worldly friends that truly LOVE me. They have literally placed their life in harms way for me. I have never had unconditional love in the KH. It depended on me commenting and going in FS. Even when I did they would murmur how materialistic I was. I have come to see many of my PALS are now trying to do what I did 20 years ago.
Worldly friends stay in contact no matter what I do or do not do. True Brotherly and Godly love. My witness buds never return my calls.
