The doctor's appointment was rather anticlimactic. He walked into the room, cracked a couple of jokes, handed me a leaflet/pamphlet on Psoriasis, told me he'd be starting me out on a strong and mild steroidal cream/s. When I talked, he didn't answer. He just game me the "bum rush"! I'm sure that he'll charge the insurance for full 30 minutes. . .He's the one that missed it in the first place and made me lose my insurance.

I think that I'll be looking for a specialist. He was talking so fast and trying to get out of that room so fast that I didn't even know what happened. My husband said he got it down (treatment plan). I didn't get to say anything about pain and when I asked about him supporting me for my insurance disability, he just gave me some cursory response. I don't think that he's going to help me at all.

He is too young to understand. I think that he's more concerned about giving botox treatments for wrinkles than care of skin diseases. I need an older experienced doctor. One experienced with Psoriasis.

    Mrs. McDucket,

First of all let me say, when you said biospy--I got chills.

Yeah, you probably better find a doctor with more time. If you are needing forms filled out for disability insurance you've got to find a doctor who gives a hoot. Some of them won't bother. Of course, YOU are the one paying HIM, so handle that business.

That really sucks how you were treated. Psoriasis is not an easy thing to explain or treat, and you deserved a better visit. He should have explained a good overall skin care regimen, explained what the steroid creams were, why he was prescribing them, how to use them properly, and what to expect from them. And he most definitely should have asked YOU if YOU had any questions before he even thought about touching that doorknob.

I would call his office and ask if they can recommend a derm who specializes in psoriasis treatment, as he didn't seem to have the time or interest to treat you. Geesh, the doctor I work for would never give the "brushoff" to someone newly diagnosed with psoriasis (or anything else) like that!

PM me if you want to. I don't know where you live, but I might know of some ideas for dermatologists that specialize in psoriasis.

    Ms McDucket,

If your skin really looks like the picture shows, your psoriasis must have evolved over a very long period (about 10 years) because it doesn't appear that bad in a short time. If it did come out fast, I bet it's not psoriasis. In addition, as it is nerve related (often comes out after a psychological trauma) , rash patches appear symetric on your body, not central. Psoriasis isn't sore, it's just a rash unless, after a long period, it evolves into articular rheumatism, in about 5% of cases. I wouldn't advise you to spend your money on meds : vitamin A (harms your liver as Momzcrazy mentioned), or corticoids which are just cosmetic. There is one cure : if you can find an opportunity, go spending a long holiday in an equatorial country (sunny and humid), it will be gone within two months, for a long while, about 2 years (and will be back slowly, or won't come back at all). UV treatment must be handled cautiously because you can't be exposed to the rays, all in all, more than 150 hours, it's used as a last resort. Eating milk fat makes psoriasis go worse.
