genuine religiosity does not lie through the fear of life, and the fear of death, and blind faith, but through striving after rational knowledge.

    Sign me up.

    LOL!

As I say, he was showing deference to his audience.

If "genuine religiosity" is "striving after rational knowledge", I'm a genuine religionist.

    Just one challenge is presented.

Where does one find a religion that has replaced blind faith with rational knowledge?

    LOL!

    I'll call it spiritual atheism.

Nothing supernatural. Purely naturalistic. And wondrous and awe-inspiring, just the same.

    Praise the Universe!

Religious belief usually oppresses the human spirit and species in general.

You can't lump all religion into one basket. Not all of them are oppressive. Have you checked out universalism? You need to know more about different belief systems....they aren't all like fundy christians and muslims, etc.

nvr, I'm done with you. You're not listening to anything onacruse Einstein says. roflmao

btw, I should credit my sources...though I do have, and have read selected parts of, the book, my fat little fingers couldn't possibly type all that stuff in less than 3 weeks, so here goes:

And, to add insult to the injury I just inflicted on nvr:

Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind.

    No, it's cool, ona.

I'm hearing you loud and clear as you're channeling Einstein.

    I get it.

I think it comes down to...

    that's right...

what it always comes down to...

    semantics.

    LOL!

    Love,

Nvr ( a "genuine religionist" unable to find a religion that teaches "genuine religiosity" )

    you're channeling Einstein.

Wow! I hadn't thought of that idea! I bet I could get a lot of people to pay me really big money to stand on a stage and do some Einstein-channeling (with the help of a good number of well-hidden cue cards).

    Great news, ona.

I was just channeling Carl Sagan and listen to what he said...

A religion that stressed the magnificence of the universe as revealed by modern science, might be able to draw forth reserves of reverence and awe hardly tapped by traditional faiths. Sooner or later, such a religion will emerge.

So if I hang out long enough, the religion of "genuine religiosity" shall appear. LOL!

Seriously, NVR, you should read the book Those Episkopals.

    Good question.

That religion would be true Christianity.

True Christianity is not a group organized by any human, but by God.

It has no church other than its members, known to God by their faith and to humans by the fruits of the Holy Spirit.

Its faith is not blind, but proven by learning, experience, obsevation, reason, knowledge, wisdom, etc.

True Christian faith begins like a mustard grain, and grows as that faith is exercised by overcoming tests and taking in more knowledge.

"Keep on asking and it will be given you; keep on seeking and you will find; keep on knocking [reverently] and [the door] will be opened to you.For everyone who keeps on asking receives; and he who keeps on seeking finds; and to him who keeps on knocking, [the door] will be opened." -Matthew 7:7-8

In my humble opinion, as well as my wife's and my adult son feels the same, religion has been the bane of mankind. Religion always seems to take a certain amount of your freedom away. It discourages critical thinking which is necessary in this crazy world to survive. People tend to do things in the name of religion , and make excuses for what caused them to do it, " because of their religion ". Even if it is considered socially , ethically, or morally wrong by society in general. Also many people in religion act or feel superior to those who aren't religious. There is enough responsibility in life and stress to deal with already, than having to add some religion dictating and spewing out rules and regulations to people , which causes more stress. Also, some religions have ex-communication of members if they aren't in harmony with the church edicts. Which causes more mental stress on people , which in turn may cause people to wack out , and take it out on former church associates as we saw recently in the news .

That being said , if someone wants to pursue a church , it is certainly their choice . But as for me and my household, we shall continue happy and agnostic , and loving life and people ! Peace out, Mr. Flipper
