mkr....might want to check into the percentage of your taxes that go into social programs compared to the war, corporate subsidies and other upper echelon hanky panky. The poor and the races have always been a convenient scapegoat. mrs flipperUM

Um, you might consider taking your own advice.

Also: If I understood all this correctly the decisions are being made by the City Council not the Feds. The people of NO are dealing with the government they elected. While we're at it, it was the liberals on the Supreme Court who decided (Kelo v New Haven) that the government could take property from one private individual and give it to another. Talk about giving away the store!

We do have rights to be racist, sexist, elitist, or anything else. However, we do not have the right to justify violent and anti-social acts because of our views.

As an individual who comes from a background of poverty, I resent having everyone painted with the same brush. A lot of poor people try to be good citizens and improve their prospects. It's not as easy as it sounds regardless of living in a society with opportunity abounding.

You do NOT have the RIGHT to affordable government housing! You do NOT have the right to free healthcare! You do NOT have the right to expect the government to buy you food. You do NOT have the right too expect the government to come in and build you a house after a hurricane. You do NOT have the right to never work and expect others to support you. You do NOT have the right to loot stores and steal a big screen TV just because there's a flood! YOU DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHT to expect ME to support you from the cradle to the grave!!!!!

    Amen.

I have to ask, if your Mayor is Ray Nagin would you expect any less?

I dindnt make the trip, but worked with several lineman who went to restore NOLA power after the storm. Those stories, plus my Pre-Katrina experiences... well I never was too impressed with Louisianna culture or politics and the post-hurricane situation hasn't evoked a whole lot of symathy from me for the city in aggregate.

To the thousands of hardworking folks in LA who are pulling themselfs out of the hole...my hat is off to you. To the rest (and they know who they are) go find someone elses tax money to waste.

about half of my salary goes to the state, but to be honest, i prefer it that way.

Don't feel bad! My canary wouldn't be able to survive out of his cage either.

Captivity has destroyed his ability to fend for himself. Like those rioters.

The government and the police were more corrupt than the people they were supposed to be protecting from my understanding. .. They just got paid to beat the hell out of people.

And I know there has been many times that a tornado siren has went off and I didn't run to the basement. Were they even sure where the hurricane was going to hit? Come on be real!

Not since Katrina. Three times prior to that. Was not impressed. The city has an air of decadence and...evil?
