Oh I've already read C of C, and even exchanged emails with Mr. Franz. That was my summer project. Dad won't be doing anything drastic, at least until my "ultra dub" grandma passes, but she's 73, and not getting any younger...

Maybe your dad read about the generation change and is having doubts. Maybe your dad thinks you've been unjustly disfellowshipped and he'll just ignore it.
Maybe he just misses you and has decided not to shun you anymore. I think that's the more likely option. Sounds like he's having a hard time of it. At least he's human!

You're very lucky to have such a good relationship with your father. I'm sure he's going thru very hard times being torn between you, his mother, and the borganization. But it's not your fault. Hopefully your example will eventually give him the courage to leave. Like you said - after grandma kicks it.
