    Ignorant red neck ALERT!

    Mr Shawn, since you brought up ignorance I have a few questions for you. Who do you think built your house, cars, roads, bridges, tunnels and planes you fly on? Who is going to rebuild your transmission or engine on your car when it goes out? Who fixes your appliances and uncloggs your plumbing? Who is it that would drag your unconcious butt out of your house when it's fully engulfed in flames? Who is that will cut you out of your car in the pouring rain at night while you are bleeding internally after a head on collision? Who hauls off your smelly trash every week? Who grows all the food you consume each day?

    Without rednecks you would be up sh creek. What qualifies you to make fun of huge segment of our population that makes your life much more comfortable and convenient?

    It appears that ignorance comes in many forms.

    Amen. It seems like rural whites are the last group that can be disparaged with racist epithets.

    Redneck culture is possesed of a certain tough pragmatic individualistic intelligence that makes them unique.

    Makes for great soldiers in addition to what you listed above.

    I am not a "redneck" but we have plenty in the neighborhood. You guys are A.O.K. in my book.

    Cheers

    I am one and apologize to no one because I am not a racist or wife beater and have two years of college. My dentist owns a horse ranch, drives a big ass 4x4, wears levis, cowboy boots, western shirts and has country music playing in his clinic. Depending on his mood he could kick anyones ass or fit you with a crown. It's comes down to whatever is needed of him at any given moment.

    Ignorance is the very first requirement for generalizing and stereotyping any group of people.

    People who refuse to get on board w the wave of american groupthink known as political correctness are disparaged or marginalized. Redneck is a a popular blanket label for some of them.

    It's the exact same tactics the JW's use except the global warmies have a slicker better packaged propaganda campaign. Having the news media as thier little sock puppets is just an added bonus.

    I read the following silly comment:

    "On Earth, the majority of carbon lies not in the atmosphere, but in the oceans and rocks. Just 0.00035% of Earth's atmosphere is made of carbon dioxide. However, this carbon dioxide, along with water vapour and other small amounts of greenhouse gasses, is enough to raise the average surface temperature of Earth by around 30°C. Without it, Earth would be frozen."

    Which is of course garbage - the moon isn't frozen.

    There is also evidence of warming occuring on other planets in the solar system though these could be linked to possible other causes- but it shouldn't be discounted:

    http://www.livescience.com/environment/070312_solarsys_warming.html

    I've also been reading an intriguing alternative theory of the universe http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=4773590301316220374 well worth an hour of your time.

    All in all I think the carbon dioxide link is far too tenuous to start taxing society heavily (which criples the poor) and then trying to re-build society insome crazy ten year window.

    By all means recognise that extreme weather needs to be prepared for and lets use our economic and intellectual muscle improving crop yields, protecing our fragile ecosystems and trying to change the pressures on society to relentlessly consume. In the meantime there is one incredible thing that I do feel great hope in - even if this is a big false alarm - I'm tremendously heartened by mankinds ability to pull together.

    A recent e-mail I recieved on this subject:

    Specifically, the "consensus" about anthropogenic climate change entails the following:

    1) the climate is undergoing a pronounced warming trend beyond the range of natural variability;
    2) the major cause of most of the observed warming is rising levels of the greenhouse gas CO2;
    3) the rise in CO2 is the result of burning fossil fuels;
    4) if CO2 continues to rise over the next century, the warming will continue; and
    5) a climate change of the projected magnitude over this time frame represents potential danger to human welfare and the environment.

    These conclusions have been explicitly endorsed by:

    Glad for that last post.

    I didn't know the Global Warming dispute would be resolved by a popularity contest.

    There is naturally a tremendous amount of resistance to something that threatens so many interests.

    I'm reminded of the reliance on coal for heating in Great Britain. In the end, the escalating deaths due to pollution changed policy to eliminate coal heating. This is a comment on how public policy is informed by physical reality, and how business interests must bow to survival interests, and not a sweeping endorsement of global warming thought. We can actually look at realtively recent history for some lessons on vested interests making way for survival interests.

    Note, though, that the melting of Greenland is accelerating: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/3922579.stm
