Cat Lovers.....my beautiful girl came in with a drooping tail.

Sadly, I did not notice it until tonight. She has an exceptionally long beautiful tail. It is held high except the last 4 inches which droops like a rag. She did not complain when I examined her. There are no puncture wounds, cuts, etc. anywhere. It does not feel broken, or swollen.

She is now about 10 years old, a long haired black and white Tuxedo cat.

From what I have read on the internet, I need to wait to see if the nerves regenerate. The nerves in the tail could have been stretched and damaged, from a bite on her spine or just someone pulling her tail. She is not in pain and is eating and drinking as usual.

One strange thing....she left a complete squirrel tail at the front door yesterday....no blood, just a beautiful tail, maybe she was trying to tell me something.

Does anyone have experience with this?

Not with the dropping tail, but she probably just brought the squirrel tail as a present. You should congratulate her on being a mighty hunter. :)

One of our cats about 10 years ago, crawled up in a vehehicles engine to keep warm about this time of year and when the vehicle was started we think her tail got caught in the fan belt. Now she has less tail. At least thats what we think happened about 10 years ago, about this time of year in Florida when the nights start getting chilly.

My Pug Rosie Louise had a drooping tail in her later years. We think it was Joint pain from old age.

My little pussykins has a rib deformity. You can't see it through her fur but can feel it. It doesn't bother her at all and the vet said there is nothing wrong, she was just born with it.

I don't think pulling her tail would do that. Do you think cats can get Arthritis?

It could be a bit or the Squirrel got her.

I had a male Calico came home after about 3 days. We figured he was after some female ? well you know. I called a vet and they said that the tail is made of cartilage and will never heal, he said you can leave it like it is or cut it off. So my father in law at the time and I sharpened up the ol butcher knife and he held the cat down while cut it off. There was not much blood and he later healed without any complications except his tail was a bit shorter.

Oh poor baby. If she isn't in pain leave it alone for a little while and see what happens. I have a tuxedo cat too she is such a character. I have one black cat whose tail has a little bend at the tip. I don't what happened to her but she seems ok with it.

    Oldflame...

Please tell me you didn't do that. Animals count on us to take care of them and, they were given to us to take care of.

They experience pain and suffering just as we do.

I had a an uncle that thought it was funny to stuff male cats into a boot and castrate them. He was also a viscious hunter....a trapper that on a regular basis found paws in his traps chewed off by the trapped animals. He was hunter of large exotic cats among everything else.

    I hated him.

Sorry, abuse to animals hurts my heart.
