    Restrangled,

I was going under the advice of a vet so I don't think I made the cat suffer, he did not even make a noise when I cut it off.

I have been married since I was 17 and have always had a cat (or two or three :o) since then. I have never come across this particular problem! I'm sorry not to have any sage advice to offer---but I can understand how upsetting and puzzling it must be for you.

    hugs,

    Annie

Hi Candidlynuts.....you are correct...there are no male calicos.

My girl has been so sweet, adobted at 6 months of age and absolutely gorgeous. out of the local county pet rescue.

She has tolerated a huge male persian that taught her she didn't need a dirt box...that was 10 years ago and he has long since died. In 10 years never a dirt box and never a mistake.

She has tolerated two huge Doberman dogs and they have learned to give her room and love her at the same time. Sometimes they want to play but she still doesn't understand those signals.

They do worry about her if she cries at the front door to get in...The dogs come running to tell me to let her in. They also let her eat their wet food out of their own bowls. She will take a few bites and they always wait until she is through.

OOPS my bad yep he was a persian not a calico. Also yes there are male calicos but they are rare and if you get on that is fertile ? they are worth about 10 grand.

    Poor kitty

You need to get her checked by the vet. The main danger is that if the tail beyond the droop is dead, she could sustain a further injury to that part of the tail and not realise - because she has no feeling in it. This could then get infected and then she'll lose the whole tail and/or could get seriously ill and die That's why vets usually see safer remove the dead part.
