Have you heard of the famous comedian "Lenny Bruce" Bob Dylan even wrote a touching song about this critic of government censorship, a true genius, Looking for some video clips that relate to the subject, to quote B Dylan: "Lenny Bruce is dead but his ghost lived on, and on, never did get any golden globe award, never made it to synanon, he was an outlaw thats for sure, more of an outlaw than you ever were Lenny Bruce is gone but his spirits living on and on maybe he had som...":

I couldn't care less about porn but what bothers me is inability of some people to take their responsibilities seriously instead of passing the bucket onto someone else, be it state, social services, school, church or whatever else under the heavens. Heavens, if they can't protect their own children from such things while they are at home, inside the house, under their roof then they shouldn't be allowed to have kids at all. To today's parents everything else seems more important, career, car, holidays and kids are of only secondary consideration and even that is a stretch. No wonder they end up in strange places be it on the net or on the street. So whose fault is that? You can't endlessly blame somebody else, parents have to suck it up and start really being parents for real and not only on the birth certificate.

As a parent, I can't help be confused by objections to this measure.

It's not censorship when they give you the option to opt out and surf porn to your heart's content.

Funny how the people who don't want the Government involved in the Internet are probably the same people who want more social programs... run by the Government.

That part that bugs me is I have to contact my ISP to have it turned off, why not the other way around? Will it work? How do they plan to filter all this porn out?

Personnaly, I am happy that ONE government takes online child protection seriously.

I feel no pain for those adults unable to function online without porn.

It is the parent's job, not the government, to control what their children are going to access on the Internet. The parents are responsible for putting filters on the Internet to prevent their children from getting onto any web site that glorifies sex, violence, drugs, or any illegal activity. They are the ones that need to keep an eye on what the children watch, and let them develop. They are going to turn 18 sooner or later, and should not be stuck with G-rated material when the world is R-rated.

I would really like to know how this filter is going to work. I've never known of one that blocks all porn sites, and what about sites such as info on contraception or drugs? Many filters block them as well (like legitimate research on a new drug your doctor has just prescribed you).

    It is the parent's job

I'm a conservative and don't want the Government involved in our lives like crazy.

But you have to admit that there is an increasing number of totally negligent parents out there.

I think the whole point we're missing is that if porn is so important to you THEN simply call your service provider. No bid deal.

As a parent who's 10 year old got a virus that uploaded bestiality pics on her school laptop: This is great for families! I hope Canada follows.
