isn't that funny we have the same ATV's......the 2006 Sportsmen is red and the 2005 Hawkeye is black........we bought the Hawkeye first, gotta love the independant suspension.

My husband's sportsman is red as well. He bought new in July '05. He actually bought my Hawkeye for my b-day in July '07, It is the black one as well. They had to get it delivered in because all the dealerships here only had the green one. We are planning to go to TN by the end of January, I'll keep you updated.

BTS. How can you, in good conscience, refer to people that ride ATV's, dirt bikes, jet ski's, etc. as rude while calling me a dumbass? I stand by what I say. If you as a hiker can not stay out of the way of an off-road rider, you neither need nor deserve, to be on the trail. As for your statement that the trail was unmarked; I'm sure that if the trail had been ridden before, that there would be tracks from tires. These tracks clearly mark the trail. If you walk in elephant tracks, don't be shocked when the elephant steps on you. If the trail hadn't been ridden on, then you are correct, the rider should have carefully ridden the trail several times to make sure that others weren't on it. I'm very sorry if you've had trouble with any immature, trashy, rude people while out hiking, but after reading your replies, have come to the conclusion that you probably deserved it.

Sorry...I'd have to agree with sooner, that is is the CORRECT answer!! This thread was about those THAT DO LIKE ATV'S....You seem to have an obvious problem with reading as much as hearing, it seems!

It is the wrong answer. I was cross country skiing on my own property. The official snowmobile trail runs through our property, and we are responsible for keeping it clear when we go back there to cut wood, etc (you think they'd give us free permits for the season at least...) We also have our own trails going through our woods, that snowmobilers are not supposed to be on. The main trail is much wider and has signage all over it, there is no way you can get off of it unless you want to.

Anyway, I'm skiiing along on one of our trails, and I hear the snowmobile coming a kilometre away, but he doesn't see or hear me of course. He came around a corner and I had to wipe myself out into the brush to prevent being killed. He didn't even see me in the brush ass over head with my skis sticking out of the snow, and I barely saw him, he was most likely going 100 kilometres an hour.

I love riding ATV's. My cousins in Kentucky have ATV's and every now and then they let me ride it. They live in a small community and we just ride them through the streets down there. I also rode one right up the middle of an abandoned railroad track. There are lots of places in Eastern Kentucky to go 4-wheeling, mostly old strip mine roads.

ATV's are fun, fun.fun But they can be dangerous, especially when Alcohol is inovlved. None of us drink though.

It is difficult to keep trespassers off your land when you are close to public trails and also have your own trails that you maintain. We have signage and on the most invaded part of the property we resorted to cutting trees to block the path. It's more of a problem in the winter with snow mobiles.

I like to ride mostly in the fall. Spring is too wet and summers can be too hot. The trails I ride/blaze are on 165 wooded acres.

This thread seems to have gotten off track into a fight thread . So to get back on topic, FOR ATV RIDERS ONLY, are there any trails in NC, SC, VA, TN, or GA that you would recommend?

Mincan & Burntheships, please do not feel the need to reply anymore....

Being a long time dirt bike rider, which means only 2 wheels, I am not a big fan of ATV's. Out here in CA they have all but destroyed our nice narrow single track trails. ATV's and those glorified golf carts. If they stay at the dunes, I have no problem, I think that's where they belong. But they are spreading like wildfire in the desert. I wish they would go away, but alas they are a way for people not talented enough to ride on 2 wheels and lots of people have a lot of money for recreation out here. Maybe with the housing market going bust all this will slow down.

There is a trail system not too far from Knoxville called "Royal Blue" other than that I dont know of many oportunities here in Tennessee. Cross the state line into Kentucky and opprtunities abound.

I'm sorry. That was uncalled for. I spluttered the first thing that came into my head. I guess I am the dumbass. I still think that ATV riders need to be especially careful on non-dedicated trails. An elephant is a wild animal. A human on an ATV is not. And the attitude that walkers need to be the careful ones is dead wrong IMHO. Everyone needs to be careful but the burden is much more on the individual traveling at high speed through thick cover on a poweful machine. I live in Florida, the woods are really thick here in places.

I'm sorry also. If you are going to ride any kind of powered equipment you need to realize that you have a great responsibility for not only yourself, but even more so for all those around you as well as the environment. Burn, I'm sorry for the elephant comment. You, as the walker, should be watchful of your surrounding, but if the dumbass elephant steps on you because he wasn't paying attention, well, I guess that elephant needs his ass beat. No hard feelings on my part. ?
