when i'm able to..I take a breather. I go to the country or to the beach and just leave my problems on the side for a while..when I come back I usually feel refreshed and ready to face another day.....
I also make lists...Things that i can do to solve the obstacles in my life...the things that are out of my control I force myself not to think about. Focus on what I can control..
I was on Paxil for about 6 years or so.
I'm off it now, but what I do is just close down the day and go to bed.
Most of my workers and family know that of me now and they know it's my way of dealing with things.
It's pretty effective.
Here are some mental exercises and practices I use.
1. I try to look beyond what is causing me stress to
something pleasant that is coming up.
2. I try to remember the huge amount of alternatives
to my current course that might bring me more joy.
3. I practice thinking positive in every situation.
I've gone from 0% positive response to negative input
to about 40% positive response to negative input. I'm
getting there.
4. Do things you love. Take care of that creative, curious
person that dwells inside all of us.

I deal with stress by taking a walk in the woods and finding a nice place to meditate. I've been depressed for years. The good days do out number the bad for the most part. I try to focus on the things I can change and let go or accept the things I cannot change. I try not to dwell on the past but I sometimes fall into that trap on bad days.
That and Michelob Ultra.

I take time out to hang out with my bird. It's hard to obscess about problems while I'm rubbing his stomach and he's chewing on my nose.

On a more serious note, in addition to alcohol, I find that excercise, looking beyond the immediate problem, and not dwelling on negative crap goes a long way.
Long ago I decided that I would not live unhappy, depressed or in a negative world. That decision has been a big help.
Also, don't let the assholes get you down.

it depends on how long I've had the stress..............short term, I get it out...........talk to someone or yell a lot, or cry. A nice drink or two helps too. Just to calm down.
A couple of days worth, I go to the casino and zone out for a few hours. I usually feel better afterwards. I usually win too, so that helps.
I think it's important to get it out of your system, by talking. Holding it inside causes too many health issues. I've witnessed it with friends and relatives, but they don't seem to get to me.
