I'm so happy it worked out well for you and you have retained your friend.
I also understand the anger and the passion at injustice that is behind the "yelling". Believe me, I have been there. However, I would like to suggest, that yelling your views at people, no matter how well intended, is often perceived as an "assault" upon them. A verbal assault but an assault just the same. It often causes others to put up their defenses and refuse to listen. It allows them to justify labeling you as emotionally unbalanced and out of control, so then they don't need to listen to or consider the actual content of your words.
This time, this relationship was strong enough to withstand this approach. It has been my experience tha many other relationships require a much calmer, gentler, rational approach to "the facts".
