JW IQ's. Below average? (Includes SM anecdote.)

Most Jehovah's Witnesses hate the Convention/Assembly reminders item. They all know what's going to be said, and it bores them all. I feel sorry for the secretary who has to give the talk 3 times a year.

I love the reminder to not use literature instead of tipping.
It's been awhile since I have been to the Long Beach convention. I do remember that they had a coffee house in the lobby.

Towards the last few years, we were counciled to not use it nor the foodstand that was set up outside by the stadium. Bring your own food was the direction. Never got the logic of that.

So are JWs in general any less intelligent than the general, Jerry Springer-watching public?

With the brain-washing, definitely. Without it, probably not.

I don't think you have to be especially stupid or slow or anything negative at all to fall for the JW ruse. Their message isn't formatted like a poorly spelled letter from a Nigerian Princes (sic). It is well packaged, presented by smiling, seemingly-happy people, and sold as the perfect solution to everything that's wrong, everywhere. But, that's just the presentation. What keeps them coming back is the mind control tactics. They affect people regardless of intellect, IQ, or reasoning ability.

Luckily, we live in a world with abundant information so high control groups have a harder time keeping someone in their grasp.

Thank you Tuesday! My current situation: my JW parents are now living in the Bible belt. Will they be greeted as fellow Christians? Or shunned as cultists?

It is unfair to paint a whole group with one thick brush. Like another poster, I know my IQ wasn't below average when in the JW's (or now, hopefully).

It's not the IQ that you should be questioning, but rather whether their IQ is being put to any practical use, and do they have to set aside their brainpower to fit in? (The answers are no, and yes.)

Example: I was salutatorian in my high school class, but never went to college. My talents were wasted doing menial chores as a ministerial servant.

I think most of the posts here have been spot on.

    Thanks guys.

I can't wait until we have another discussion at the K Hall about how the angels are directing the work.

That's one of my favorite topics to play "can you spot the brain cell", as stilla likes to call it.

    Dang it.

Abandoned saw my "favoritism" before I had a chance to retract it.

    Oh well.

Thanks to everyone on this thread.

    Cheers.

I remember a talk mostly about how to wash your hands. "Remember to keep your hands under the running water for a count of 30. That's 30 seconds." (I remember that part exactly) I really doubt anyone in the congregation needed to be told how to wash their hands, that didn't seem to be a problem (afaik). I think the GB just keeps saying this crap over and over and over again and we all learned to tune it out and try not too look at the clock too much.

Sorry about that. I just thought it was funny that we were both from good ole Minn......

    But, I fixed it now....
