How do JW's react when learning that Jehovah is not part of Christianity?

Jehovah this, Jehovah that......6 times per page in the Old Testament. But oh how few JW's know that the name Jehovah does not even appear in the Christian Greek Scriptures....or New Testatment as I prefer. I used to be so proud of our REAL Bible, the NWT for restoring the Divine name thousands of times in the OT. But not a single Jehovah is found in any ancient Greek manuscript IN THE WORLD!!! But don't let that stop WT from sticking in there 237 without ANY manuscript support. Why don't other religions bash the heck out JW's for having THEIR OWN BIBLE??? No one in service ever brought this up to me in over 40 year! Why the crap didn't Christendom educate me a good one while out trying to convert them?.............Still pissed......................................oompa

I have educated 8 elders about this and the reactions are from stunned....to stunned they did not know.....but mosltly life goes on in denial........and one now says he thinks of me every single time a Scripture is read that uses the name Jehovah in the Christian Greek Scriptures...........oompa

Other religions were teaching their members what was wrong with JW's teachings for years.
JW's kept changing to combat that problem, and other religions didn't take this minor cult
seriously. Heck, look at how successful Mormonism is, and I don't know much of anything
about their beliefs that I haven't gone out of my way to learn. Same with Scientology.

Most JW's have the knowledge available to them that the New Testament didn't have
"Jehovah" in it, but they swallow the story of 1st century apostasy. Mostly, life goes on in
    denial.

I think Christian churches will only educate those that are regular members and ask questions
or where parents are getting involved in saving family from the cults. Even there, many
reverends/pastors are too busy fleecing their flock to worry about a few lost souls.

I was dimly aware of the problem as a JW, but didn't think it through. If Jehovah was in the original NT writings, it means that apostasy happened very early and we can't rely on our earliest documents. If the original NT writings didn't use the name Jehovah, as appears to be the case, then the JW's are guilty of an unforgivable fraud.

    Hi oompa,
    Good post, I agree.

Most incredible is where they substitute "Jehovah" for the greek "Theos" (God) in Revelation.

    Start at chapter 4

NWT 8 And as for the four living creatures, each one of them respectively has six wings; round about and underneath they are full of eyes. And they have no rest day and night as they say: “Holy, holy, holy is Jehovah God, the Almighty, who was and who is and who is coming.”

NWT 11 “You are worthy, Jehovah, even our God, to receive the glory and the honor and the power, because you created all things, and because of your will they existed and were created.”

All other versions have "God", see here

    http://bible.cc/revelation/4-8.htm

    http://bible.cc/revelation/4-11.htm

This is against the waring at the end of Revelation itself, see the NWT has it.

18 “I am bearing witness to everyone that hears the words of the prophecy of this scroll: If anyone makes an addition to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this scroll; 19 and if anyone takes anything away from the words of the scroll of this prophecy, God will take his portion away from the trees of life and out of the holy city, things which are written about in this scroll."

I have told my JW friend several times that the NWT is far from 'the most accurate translation' but pointed out how it demotes Jesus and promotes "Jehovah" to support their beliefs. I have given him many examples of this and other twisted verses and advised him to use his other bible only (which I think is the NIV).

    All the best,
    Stephen

    Jesus is the real deal.

Jehovah is just the new (or nick) name of the real estate corporation know as the Watchtower (etc) Society. Totally different. Which one is the scammer?

Oompa: That's cuz you never came to MY door

But it is not too late--let me know and I'll get the chocolate brownies in the oven and put on the kettle.

OTWO: I think from my year as a Christian that the # of pastors who are busy "fleecing their flock" are by far the minority rather than the rule. (I'm thinking here of the "Wealth and health" heresy which encourages materialism). There are many, many more dedicated shepherds who are living at a far lower standard than their flock. Don't really have any stats to back that up, just personal experience in different denominations. Do you have other experience?

Wow, I wouldn't have truly believed it without actually looking in the Interlinear translation myself!

Most JW's have the knowledge available to them that the New Testament didn't have
"Jehovah" in it, but they swallow the story of 1st century apostasy. Mostly, life goes on in
    denial.

The Society does state the above, and 'assumes' that it should, and that it is accurately using the name Jehovah.

So the question is, if there was enough apostacy for someone to ONLY take out the name Jehovah and replace it with God/Lord, how can the Society assume that nothing else was changed? Could this possibly invalidate the scriptures entirely?
