Yes that's right....lovely Jiffy Lube effed up my engine and it is TOAST. I'm waiting to hear back from the district manager, whom I'm sure I will have to call myself. I am anticipating them to fight it, even though a garage has put the blame completely on them.

Has anyone had experience dealing with this type of situation? Any tips on what to do or what not to do would be greatly appreciated :)

I haven't haggled with Jiffy Lube over a new engine but a year and a half ago I haggled with Precision Auto Tune for a new motor and I got one after one of their employees left the cap off the oil and burned the motor up. I was without a car for a short period of time but now it is in better condition than it was before I took it there for an oil change. These days, you have to literally stand over people for them to do a job right most of the time.

I once got an oil change and they caused some body damage. I had to be persistent, but they paid for it.

You Tube had a film on Jiffy Lube charging people for parts which they never installed. It would not surprise me if they never put any oil in after draining it, or possibly just added drain oil mixed with water. This fraud was caught by a news station and made the news.

Yes I have, for a company I worked for. You will need mileage and maintinence records if they try to squirm out of replacing it with a new from the factory motor (which you should demand). They also are on the hook for a rental.

Our truck had 16,000 miles and they left the drain plug out...it lasted half a block.

I had a quicklube place put an air filter of the wrong size in my diesel Riviera around 1985. The engine sucked air and dirt and wore the rings out in 1000 miles- unfortunately for me they prorated the damge due to the engine having over 100,000 miles, so I ended up with only $300- which covered the parts for me to rebuild it myself.

Never let a quicklube add transmission oil to your car! Back in the 90's a ton of Chrysler automatic transmissions were ruined by them- just one quart of GM dextran transmission oil in a Chrysler transmission will cause it to fail within 1000 miles.

The media around here love these kinds of stories. If you start getting the runaround, then find a media outlet that is interested.

    What caused the problem?

I have never had a problem with Jiffy Lube until this week. I went to a new Jiffy Lube, not my usual one. They took a long time, and kept looking at me and smiling funny - one of them kept an eye on me while the other one was in my car for a while. When I got back in I could tell they had really searched it. Fortunately, other than about a dollar in change, there wasn't anything valuable in it but I'll never go back there. It was too creepy. A motor destroyed is much much worse - I hope you succeed in making them replace the motor. I once had a tire place jack up my car on the motor mounts - it dropped my new engine right onto the floor. They had to replace the motor - the guy who had just put it in was royally pissed.

I used Jiffy Lube for two cars for awhile because it was in a convenient location. I finally quit because of their agressive parts and extras sales techniques (dismantling my air cleaner even when I told them not to) that always made me wonder if they were paying attention to the primary service... I found a small independent outfit that does a good job and I have to ask them to check my air filter .

Thanks everybody for your feedback! :)

I too had thought about local media. There's a news guy here who has a radio show and a TV news program, they call him "The Troubleshooter" he's like a local BBB. Anyways I thought I could get him on it any other media outlet that will listen.

The mechanic thinks they either didn't put new oil in, or put the wrong kind of oil in. It started making a strange clicking noise the day after it was serviced, the noise would get louder when I hit the gas. It drove like that for a week until the engine literally blew. There's about a softball size hold in the bottom of the oil pan.

And I agree, they will be responsible for a rental and I want a Saab dealership to put a new factory engine in, not an independent garage.
