But if you have any Otto Klemper conducting Wagner I would be very interested. I still have a wonderful deck - Pink Triangle PT Too with a Rocksan Tabriz Arm and Chorus Black Cartridge.

Also most versions of Verdis AIDA I would pay good money for

Convert them all to MP3 with a USB turntable (assuming they aren't 78rpm):

Hello, Restrangled. As an LP afficionado and collector, I might make a contribution to your thread. I have about 3000 LPs which cover all genres---classical , jazz/blues, pop/rock, all eras, even some 10" from the 40's. Some are in pristine condition, some are pretty ragged, most are somewhere in between; I try to get around to playing all of them every 4 or 5 years, but I'm running behind at the moment.

Based on my observation and experience, the published price guides aren't really worth that much. I have a much better way of determining the value: Basically, your record is worth what you say it's worth. If you say that an album is worth $30, then as far as I'm concerned, it's worth $30. You just have to find somebody who will give you the money. If you can find somebody who agrees with you and will give you the money, then everybody's happy. But that's always been my problem---------it's hard to find someone who will agree with you. When you get right down to it, the record is worth what someone will pay you for it. Usually, that's not much. Often, it's nothing.

I think Bobld has probably got the best idea------------------------put them on Ebay and see what happens. Another idea is to take a few over to a local record shop and see what the proprietor will offer for the whole lot. He will probably offer you something like 20% of what he thinks he can move them for, so you could use that formula to get an idea as to what the collection might be worth in your area. If this music doesn't suit your taste and you don't think you would enjoy playing them, selling the whole lot at once would probably be the easiest and fastest way to dispose of them. The record store would probably recover it's initail investment fairly quickly----a few months, maybe. After that, everthing would be profit. But I guarantee you that years from now, some of those records will still be on the shelves.

I wish I were somewhere close----------------------------I'd love to go through them. But I probably wouldn't pay you what they're worth.

    Good luck.

    David

I did a blind listening test on a friend's stereo comparing cd to vinyl. Before I was somewhat skeptical that there was a significant difference in the sound quality.

I enjoy listening to music and have a reasonably good hifi and I wouldn't say I was an audiophile but even I could tell the difference in the tracks I compared, and vinyl was better. The friend did say that it does depend on the CD as some have a better sound than others.

Ebay is the way to go if you want to sell your vinyl on, there is no way you will get anything like their retail value from a dealer. A dealer might agree to take all of them in one go though.

We used to take them and throw them up in the air and shoot them. But that can be dangerous. It would be saffer to prop them up and then shoot them.

If they were rock and roll I would take them to Bannanas records in St Pete. They are the biggest record store in Pinnellas county.

LPs are only worth what people will pay for them. Toss five of 'em on ebay starting at $1.00 and see what happens.

    Hello,

Different venues supply different results in sales values.

For example, I bought a rare LP of a UK jazz guitarist on ebay for $7.50 and sold it on Music Stacks for $225.00. It costs nothing to set yourself up as a seller on Music Stack for example, but a 10% commission when things sell. It is much easier to use than eBay and David Stacks who runs the site is a very decent man.

    Stilla,

Very nice deck and arm. I have not tried the cartridge.

I am using a Heybrook TT2, with a Hadcock arm and a Koetsu Rosewood signature. I also have a Linn Sondek LP12 with SME arm on my second sytem, but frankly prefer the Heybrook sound.

I was chuckling the other day when you reminded me of our mutual friend. He made me drive from the South to the North to buy a deck from his 'study' and when we arrived at his house the man was actually using it and never had any intention of selling it. Such fantasies were not uncommon with him in those days.

    Cheers - HS

Thanks everyone for your help. I'm having fun if nothing else, going through everything. Just found a complete Opera by Beverly Sills with an original signature on a photo of herself tucked inside.

Lots of Gorgeous Sets with inserts. Wish I could play some of this stuff!

    r.

    ABSOLUTELY CLASSIC AND WONDERFUL

For a minute I thought that maybe how you knew me - our mutual friend is a fan off Jazz - or was - had a good collection. I also had some Hi-fi for sale as I had "upgradeitis" - I had KEF Calinda speakers at the time -huge things. Switched to B&W now
