Thanks for this study. I used to look up every scrip and write a note about it in the margin, if it didn't fit the lesson I'd 'meditate' until I found some thread of a connection.

Just now, I read every word from the article and every word that you wrote, thank you for reminding me of how they control and manipulate people by using their own personal, very real desires and feelings. Really. The eating poop para, while funny is SOOO real. Their completely juvenile writing style and method of preying upon the open minds of their followers is so sick and so plain to see. THis is what we battle against when we try to get friends and family to listen to the facts.

Awesome job V. drag below for message. . .

Remember, remember, the fifth of November

I see no reason why Gunpowder treason
    Should ever be forgot

And, that assertation that prayer is the solution to your problems. It is not. About 90% of your problems can be solved or lessened simply by acting, and that does not require prayer

A fairly common expression I used to hear (from "worldly" people) when I was young was, "God helps those who help themselves." I think there's a certain amount of truth in that simple statement.

With the day of Jehovah looming on the horizon, the yeartext of Jehovah's Witnesses for 2007 has been especially appropriate. Taken from Zephaniah 1:14, it reads: "The great day of Jehovah is near."

Oh, so the choice of this scripture as the yeartext is only appropriate now - in the opening years of the 21st century - and so it would follow that if I were to search through the Watchtower Society's literature that was produced, say, 60 or 70 years ago when very few among the current crop of JW's were even alive, I would find no such references to this scripture in a similar context, right? LOL

just as love motivates us to proclaim the Kingdom message to our neighbors . Love for God and for our neighbor keeps us active as Christian ministers

I have a friend who lived beside Witnesses. They never once proclaimed to her the "Kingdom message" but left it to strangers who were assigned to that territory. That seems very strange and hard to understand...

Another OT scripture about Jehovah's day. Notice that 607 BCE and 70 CE are labeled as such a day. But were all the wicked destroyed them and without hope of a resurrection. The WTS has taught that people living during judgement days would be destroyed forever.

Paragraph 6: keeps us active (many inactive jws)

Paragraph 7: unselfish givers (jws not giving financially)

Paragraph 8: fervent prayer (same words over and over at the KH)

Paragraph 11: changes to make: read Bible daily...really read WT publications after all they do have scriptures in them right?

Paragraph 12: nearness of Jehovah's day (1879 to 2008 = 129 years, only 120 years to wait for flood)

Paragraph 12: only baptized jws are "rightly disposed for everlasting life"

Paragraph 13: Jehovah's day is imminent....personality....what deeds of kindness?

Paragraph 14: quick temper--I know quite a few elders like that

Paragraph 15: strained relationship--like my relatives not talking to me and my husband and several other couples for years and saying there was no problem

Paragraph 17: sinned seriously---why do jws have to "confess" to the elders, yet the WTS says confessing to priests is unscriptural?

Paragraph 18: CARROT: undoubtedly look forward to the wonderful new world

Paragraph 19: helping your children...most jw teenagers, young adults leave or drive away; with few to become MS

Paragraph 20: CARROT: look forward to eternal life in Paradise

Paragraph 21: Do you think David will tell how he committed adultery with Bathsheba, had her husband killed, and managed to sidestep punishment of capital execution under the Law?

Paragraph 22: Study with resurrected....why not study with people today who face eternal destruction?

Brother Nosferatu, I'd like to comment....

Paragraph 4: 'In his prophecy regarding the conclusion of the system of things, Jesus Christ said to his disciples: "Prove yourselves ready." '

So, JC told his disciples in 33 C.E. to prove themselves ready for the conclusion of the system of things which hasn't occured as of 2008 C.E.? I understand that Jesus didn't know the day or the hour, but either he was off by at least 1,970 years, or he was only speaking about the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 C.E. Too bad Jesus didn't write any of this stuff down clearly himself.

Paragraph 11: "the admonition of `the faithful slave' to read the Bible daily".

They mean "read THEIR Bible and THEIR Bible Study Aids daily". Come on, Matt. 24:45 again? Yeah, we've read the context here at JWD:

45 "Who really is the faithful and discreet slave whom his master appointed over his domestics, to give them their food at the proper time? 46 Happy is that slave if his master on arriving finds him doing so. 47 Truly I say to YOU, He will appoint him over all his belongings.

48 "But if ever that evil slave should say in his heart, ‘My master is delaying,’ 49 and should start to beat his fellow slaves and should eat and drink with the confirmed drunkards, 50 the master of that slave will come on a day that he does not expect and in an hour that he does not know, 51 and will punish him with the greatest severity and will assign him his part with the hypocrites. There is where [his] weeping and the gnashing of [his] teeth will be.

Jesus didn't mention a "faithful and discreet slave" CLASS. In verse 48 he calls the same slave "that evil slave". Yeah, we've read the WTBTS explanation that it is a different slave class, but Jesus didn't mention two separate classes here. Why was everything Jesus said so incomplete that 1,970 years later a group of men in Brooklyn need to interpret what was written to make themselves saintly?

And perhaps the Writing Department should have been a bit more clear about using Joshua as an example... duh, he never read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation every year BECAUSE MOST OF IT HADN'T BEEN WRITTEN YET !!! He read what Moses wrote about the naked lady and the talking snake. And he read Moses Mosaic Law about how many cows and sheep and goats and birds to slaughter at the tabernacle to make God happy.

Paragraph 14: Pray for Holy Spirit? All these years I've been praying for Jah to kill billions of people so I could have my pet lion that the faithful and discreet slave promised we would get. Why would I want to pray for self-control if my God is about to go on a killing rampage? Looks like God's going to kill every non-JW and most of the JWs too if they don't start exercising self-control and get rid of their quick tempers. So, everybody be more patient, empathetic, and loving right now or else God will rip your guts out at Armageddon !!!

SnoozZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ wake up for last review question:

  • What do you look forward to when Jehovah's day is over? I look forward to lunch at Great Wall Chinese Buffet !! Oh crap, never mind, I misread the question. I thought it asked "What do you look forward to when the Craptower Study is over?"

It might very well be that I have changed, but I can't remember that the Q&A were that "easy".
When I attended the meetings some years ago, and was preparing my WT study, I would always look for one or two paragraphs with an "easy" answer to make a comment on. I would not pick the easiest, knowing that any kid could raise their hand and say "Jehovah" or "Jesus". But I would never comment on something that demanded a longer, more complex answer.

But reading the article of this week, I found that I could have made an easy comment on almost every paragraph! Leading questions, and the answer is to be found in the first sentence of the paragraph. Example:

Q12) The nearness of Jehovah's day should move you to do what?
    12) The nearness of Jehovah's day should move you to attend Christian meetings regularly and participate in them as fully as possible. (Hebrews 10:24, 25) ...

Now how stupid is that, really? And there were many Q&As like that in this article.
Is it me, or has the studies been dumbed down lately?

By the way: I loved the "irrelevant scriptures"

The WTBTS consistently twists Ecclesiastes and uses it for fear mongering. According to them, the most important concept we can glean is that life is short and uncertain, so obsess every day about whether you are or are not doing enough spiritually. Recently, I read Ecclesiastes straight through from the Message Bible. It is now one of my favorite Bible books. Here is a comparison of the Watchtower's comments versus the Bible.

    Watchtowers comments:

"Q10) Why is it appropriate to examine our life?
    10) If Jehovah's day comes tomorrow, will you really be ready for it? Each of us would do well to examine his or her life to see if any actions or attitudes need to be adjusted. In view of the brevity and uncertainty of present human life, every one of us needs to be spiritually alert each day. (Ecclesiastes 9:11, 12)"

    The Bible:

Eccl. 2:24: “The best you can do with your life is to have a good time and get by the best your can. The way I see it, that’s it—divine fate.”

Eccl. 3:9-13 (partial quote): “I’ve decided that there’s nothing better to do than go ahead and have a good time and get the most we can out of life. That’s it—eat, drink, and make the most of your job. It’s God’s gift.”

Eccl.3:22: “So I made up my mind that there’s nothing better for us men and women than to have a good time in whatever we do—that’s our lot. Who knows if there’s anything else to life?”

Eccl. 5:18: “After looking at the way things are on this earth, here’s what I’ve decided is the best way to live: Take care of yourself, have a good time, and make the most of whatever job you have for as long as God gives you life.”

Eccl. 8:15: “So, I’m all for just going ahead and having a good time—the best possible. The only earthly good men and women can look forward to is to eat and drink well and have a good time—compensation for the struggle for survival these few years God gives us on earth.”

Eccl. 9:7: “ Seize life! Eat bread with gusto, Drink wine with a robust heart. Oh yes—God takes pleasure in your pleasure! Dress festively every morning. Don’t skimp on colors and scarves, Relish life with the spouse you love each and every day of your precarious life.”

Nosferatu, i break my vow of silence to say that finally a watchtower points to the correct from of motivation, love.

Especially regarding service to Jehovah, meeting attendance and confession.

If you have missed the point, then I say boo hoo!!!

I hope this org has realized where they have gone wrong and try to correct it, stay tuned!!

Never before have they mentioned sin and not "commanded" one to confess to the elders, they only mention ones obligation to confess to Jehovah to me , thats progress.

Nosferatu, get the point, a hair cut and a life.
