Do you think they know its not the truth???

Elders, for example, through JCs are privied to info about the JW involvement with the UN, 607 bce, etc, etc...

people who actually do study a lot, you think they figured it out???

I mean, when i started really studing a lot, I had questions right away...

How do they not have a ton of questions??? Its so weird to me...

It is very weird, isn't it....? I think that many jws just don't study very much... it's just easier not to question. I think the ones that do independent study eventually leave. The organization holds you hostage..and.there is so much to lose by bucking the system.. A lot of elders have left because of what they are privy to.

There are only a few Elders that REALLY study the Bible. Have you noticed that even "reading the bible" is not a requisite to become an Elder???

Most of us are unaware of the UN scandals and stuff, and only the President and the Secretary have immediate access to the letters from the WT. We are teached to "follow theocratic procedures(tm)", and that's all. If you don't do research, you became a robot, and a part of the Borg.

It was only when I started to REALLY study the bible that I noticed how texts are used out of context. I know of at least 2 fellow Elders and 1 MS that have concluded that we don't have the Truth(tm). We are still in because our family is held hostage...

COGNAC- Good thread sis ! Most elders are " cult mind controlled " and probably duped into believing it is the " truth". Those elders who don't believe it are too fearful to come out openly and admit it ; for fear of repercussion from the organization , and fellow elders who would rat them out for admitting differences of belief . So many , elders or non elders ; choose to suffer with their doubts keeping quiet so they don't lose their families in the organization.

A high price to pay , and time lost if one finds out the real " truth " about the " truth "

Been around elders my whole life... my dad and others, even a pioneer knew some weird things like this. they didn't expound a lot, I just heard some things over the years...

Maybe it was just the people that I was around...

On the other hand, in the course of a few years, you would think that they would get at least 1 jc mtg for an apostate inwhich the apostate may tell them things regular JWs don't know...

I pondered your question for years after escaping the tower. I bought litterature and self help books. There was no internet in 81.

Different people are wired different ways. They are working different angles.

Myself it took me about 23 years of reading the bible and studying it after escaping the tower to conclude that the bible is the deck of cards the wac tower society is built on. I wanted the bible and its god to be real.

Today I would like God to be real. Not the god of the bible. I realize that is my bias and because of it, I discount pro evolution arguments.

One book I read in the 80's said we are all like zombies walking around in a trance. Some of us have more awareness than others.

When I was studying the bible, I was doing so because I wanted it to be found true and real. So I was in denial and deluding myself and not thinking rationaly because I wanted to see what I wanted to see, The bible being the word of God.

As far as I can tell life has no meaning or purpose but what we give it. To some being a witness is their meaning and purpose and they do not find it as detrimental and hindering as I found it.

And If being a witness is their meaning and purpose they do not realize that life has no meaning and purpose, which can be a cold hard reality.

I KNEW IT WAS NOT THE TRUTH...esp after 2002.....I was an elder who studied a lot and read the bible (not just the NWT) through many times. I spent hours each week not only studying for regular meetings, but additional research (chronology was my favorite...607 was always a problem for me)... and yes...those studies led to many questions.... but cognitive dissonance..."waiting on Jehovah (tm)"....led me to push those questions and doubts to the back of my mind.

One of the reasons I was removed as an elder was that I was considered "unreasonable." Why? Because I refused to show up for a scheduled quarterly elders' meeting unprepared. I was given the agenda with less than 24 hours notice..while the other elders had it several days prior.... (the PO claimed he emailed it to me, but I know he didnt). I told them that I always study and prepare for such meetings and pray before hand that I help make good choices. With less than a day to prepare (including 8 hours to sleep, 8 hours to work) I did not feel I could in good conscience attend. And I boycotted the meeting...I sat at home and watched TV if I recall...and probably was lurking here...LOL....

That was the beginning of the end for me as an elder (and as a JW) at the end of 2006. It took me almost another year to completely walk away (9/23/07) How fortuitous. Anyone who tried to do what was right (either in real life or WT/Borg life) was not appreciated by the local yokels who wanted things done their way.... one elder (through his son the PO) controlled everyone and everything in that congo.....and if they and their wives couldnt control you, they wanted you gone.......there are a few on this board who know of what/whom I speak.

its the good ol' boys club. even if they disagree with each other during JCs, etc., they can't voice that in front of other publishers. all to protect the facade of having it together as an elder body...but that rises to the top, and elders feel they need to protect the organization even if the logic of their reasoning is absurd, most will not budge from protecting the organization like they're in the nazi party and the wtbts is hitler.

all on one scripture misinterpreted.....who really is the faithful and discreet slave?

nominating myself is as pathetic as the wtbts and how they've nominated themselves.

oh, and the other illogic, that jehovah is taking care of things in his due time, and we don't know his due time, and its all happening for a reason.

It totally depends on HOW they study. My mom "studies" ALL of the time, seriously, about 2 hours every day... for 34 years. She reads the WT and whatever other books are the current release or current study material, looks up every scripture, and writes them in the margin of her book and magazine. For everything. It looks really impressive. But she doesn't actually learn or research anything, so she'll probably never get it. Sad. And what a waste of time.
